great wouldn't you love to see a celeb like Terry Wogan advertising walking sticks and zimmer frames Laughing

and slap their back pockets as they get change at the checkout ,have you not seen Micheal Parkinson advertising life insurence for the over 50's on tv.

I think it's a great idea, they are perhaps not that easy to come by for some folks who don't have internet, etc.

You'll see from that site that they specialise in small and/or lightweight aids to mobility and disability, like grab rails, toilet seats, jar and bottle openers; the collapsible wheelchair is the largest item.

They are nearly all items which local council social services used to provide free of charge, given a nudge by one's GP or Age Concern; if you wanted to buy them then there have been a number of independent retailers, which you have to track down in Yellow Pages, or mail order from weekend newspapers and magazines.

Having Asda as an outlet (initially 75 stores are selling them) puts them in easier reach, in the current economic climate which has seen councils cutting such free services to all but those who cannot afford them. As with anything the Big Four supermarkets do, Asda are hoping that it will earn them a bob or two - I doubt whether they are actually shelling anything out, other than a little bit of space.

Mark's comment "it's a shame that Asda has to do this" just doesn't figure. Asda doesn't have to do anything - but what it does do it does because sees a commercial opportunity. If it didn't, its buyers wouldn't touch it.

Argos has been selling Wheelchairs as part of its "living aids" range for a long time, but Mark hasn't seen fit to deem it to be "a shame".

Hence my question "I can't see what the issue is".

oh why can't Asda sell living aids? If they do in tescos you will be able to get clubpoints and vouchers . You can get optitions and glasses in Tescos,soon they say you will be able to see a Gp in a supermarket.if you use Asda dot com to you can get the things delivered with your other shopping Great!
