What does everyone think of SOT70s once again under Johnnie Walker's stewardship? Of course he was the original SOT70s presenter when he was first signed up to Radio 2, before Steve Harley took it over. Yes it was only ½ hour then as well. I certainly think it'll do the decade a lot more justice to be the same lenth show as SOT60s.

As a huge JW fan I was a bit disappointed if I'm honest but wasn't really in the right mood.

I think it will be a Listen Again one for me if I like the look of what is on the playlist. It probably would have been better if it had been live as well.

I think allowances should be made for it being the first show. I think it will improve as the series goes on. The public can nominate a 'One that got away' track from now on. That is to say a track that deserved to be more than just a 'turntable hit' back in the 1970s.

I heard bits of it. I'm always glad to hear JW whatever he's doing, and it was good to hear some f the old stuff, but it sounded very scripted to me. JW's other formats have had a lot more spontaneity about them, and that kind of approach suits his style. But I will keep listening.

I heard this up to about 4:15, when we went out to the park with elder grandson.

I'm glad that SOTSev is now going to receive its proper due in terms of duration and of course I wouldn't expect it to be a carbon copy of SOTSix. I don't think that it has yet realised its full potential--I thought that what I heard yesterday lacked a little in pace--but it's hardly fair to judge it on just part of its first show. I look forward to hearing how it develops.

Ian.

I thought it was an excellent show which JW will do a good job of particularly liked the bay city rollers track he almost played at the end of the show!

Really enjoyed it. For me the best bit was Genesis, "I know what I like" suddenly realised what the song was ACTUALLY about!
Watched it on UTube later and yes, it was about what I thought on JW replay. And there's me thinking it was referring to a person who had an impediment for all these years.

I've been away from this site for a while but I'm back now!

I really enjoyed SOT70s on Sunday... I did wonder whether it was live or not, or whether it was scripted. There are some people who sound a bit un-natural when reading from a script and I wasn't sure whether it was live/pre-recorded or scripted/non-scripted.

The show was great though, its still Johnnie Walker even if he is pre-recorded and/or scripted.

No, but I have been following the pirates for all that time. PAMS of Dallas made the original BigL jingles and then, subsequently, the Radio 1 package as well (given that R1 was moulded on BigL, very weakly as it happens).

S2 Blue resung the old Pams jingles for Pirate Johnny Walker. You can take a sneak preview.

The show's sounding brilliant today, and it's live! I'm actually coming round to this change - just a shame it's not on at the old time. Right, out to enjoy the sunshine now.

Mark, are you obsessed with trawling the jingles websites?

Was 'Day After Day' by Badfinger a later re-recording?

Yes it was - black mark JW!

It's from an album called Badfinger - Come And Get It, a poundstore bargain bin item if ever there was, recorded by guitarist (and sole surviving member) Joey Molland and a bunch of session musicians at some point in the 1980s/90s.

It's not as if the original was hard to get hold of Rolling Eyes

I picked that one up, too. Huge disappointment. "Come and Get it" (a Paul McCartney song, originally demoed by him but he went on to produce the Badfinger studio session) is one of my favourite songs of the period and I love it. The "poundshop" CD is utter rubbish.
