We are moored near Toulouse tonight, and during the course of the day we have been directly under, or very close to the flight path of air traffic into Toulouse. One plane I have seen twice is a really odd thing. It looks a bit like a dolphin, like a very much shortened jumbo with its hump on the top. Can anyone advise what it might be? _________________ Minx

Hi Minx
This is just off the top of my head as OH who is he expert is out!
As you are near Toulouse you'll be close to the Airbus factory and I'd guess that what you might have seen is a Guppy? I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong and will ask OH when he gets in.

It sounds very much like you saw a Beluga (yes, named after the species of whale) These are outsize cargo aircraft used by airbus to shuttle between Airbus's factories around Europe (The UK make the wings of airbus' aircraft) and the final assembly plants. Here are a few pictures of one of the Beluga fleet: http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=F-GSTD _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Thanks both. That's definitely the one on the website - incredibly ugly thing that looks like it shouldn't be airborne, let alone travelling at speed. Will keep my eyes posted for another sighting today. _________________ Minx
