Just a thought, is it possible that Zoe is being groomed for weekday breakfast in the near future, she seems to have built a good rapport with the Radio 2 team, has a good relationship with Terry, I know she does not operate the desk herself but neither does Emma or Dave Vitty on Radio 1, I think she is a serious part of Radio 2 future, and I hope she is...The breakfast hours need a refresh...

Chris Evans is destined for the breakfast show gig.

Nah. It doesn't make sense for Chris to move to the breakfast slot. Maybe it was the plan a while back but things change - life is different now. Zoe would be good but so would a few others.

If he was offered the slot (assuming he hasn't been already...) could you really see him seeing no?! Much as I dislike him, he'd be mad not to say no! He'd be back in centre spot again, talking all over the pips Cool

CE is in poll position to capture the breakfast gig.

We should run a poll!

For how long he can hack it for this time?

LEE-I was thinking a poll re the potential candidates to take over the breakfast show once Terry decides to call it a day.

That's an interesting thought. Zoe would be good doing weekday breakfast. A thought occured to me the other day: has Radio 2 ever had a female breakfast host during the week (& I don't mean cover presenters when Terry's on holiday)? Is so, when was the last time?

As for not operating the desk: she said at the end of her first show she'll learn. Maybe Radio 2 don't think it worthwhile having permenant presenters who can't operate the equipment? I noticed the webcam was working on Saturday morning, so we'll be able to see for ourselves when Zoe is operating the desk!

Yeah , I think he would turn it down. It’s a fine line between success at work and success at home. Like your work. Love your family. Why has Chris never filled-in for Sir T when he’s been on holiday? Surely he would if he really wanted that slot.
Breakfast listeners (apart from the retired) are short-term transient listeners. I’m 100% certain Chris could do a fab breakfast show but the masses wouldn’t “get it” because they’d be too busy getting ready for their day ahead. You have to really listen and I mean carefully listen, to Chris Evans. I’m not sure breakfast listeners have the time or concentration enough to extract all that is good about Chris’ show during that busy time of the day. That is why he will stick with the drive home.

I don't think Radio 2 has had a female on Weekday Breakfast before? I would expect Zoe will be moved to weekdays in the near future. Hopefully Richard and Emma will move towards weekdays as well?

I've always suspected that this is perhaps why I don't "get" Sarah Kennedy, and why most of her fans seem to be of a retired or leisured persuasion. You have a good point there, Rachel.

Note to John W; this means you have to put up with another 17 years of my moaning about the Dawn Patrol! Wink Laughing

Surely this argument could be applied elsewhere. How about Evans at drivetime? Most of the people would be short term transient listeners on their way home? Most noticably there's the dip in listeners after 6pm when many have arrived home. Also, didn't Evans do a breakfast show in the 90s? One that the masses 'got', which went to his head, and he got sacked!

Maybe not. Part of the deal when Johnnie Walker was told that Drivetime was no longer his was that he would continue to deputise for Sir Terry of Wogan. The breakfast stand-in gig may simply not be available if Walker has a contract to that effect.

Besides, the "stand in" has a difficult job to do. Drivetime these days is very structured; Evans seems to like that. He doesn't have to think about what's coming next because it's second nature; all his effort can go into projecting energy around the structure. Give him two hours where the only feature is Pause for Thought and he would have a massive change of mental gear to do. He would struggle to settle before Wogan got back.

From both Chris's and the management's point of view, it's much better to put someone like Walker in the slot, who is well known and is comfortable making something from very little for a couple of weeks.

If/when Evans is given the breakfast show, he will make it his own with regular features and a very different style to Wogan. He will, of course, alienate a lot of listeners, but others will be attracted and his figures after a year will stand a chance of returning to their former level - if he's the right man for the job. If not, they won't! Very Happy

Rob.
