It's a total mess. There must be some jobs for everyone out there? I do think people are get picky what jobs they want. I can see it go up to 3 million by the end of 2009 into 2010.

Mark, there are not "jobs for everybody" - even if we weren't in the midst of the worst recession in living memory, that would not be the case. Yes it probably will go up to 3 million - try being a little more sympathetic to those of us who have lost our jobs and are desperate to find another.

So how can they talk about deferring the retirement age? Where are the jobs going to come from to make this possible?

Ian.

It's good to log back in after a long break away and see that you're still on form, Mark.

Where are the jobs for everyone, perchance?

as someone who was made redundant in march, i would like to know where these jobs you talk of actually are mark??? i take it from the smugness of your comment you are either still in work or retired?

all i find locally is people offering temporary work. if i take these jobs ( the one was temp for 6 days!!!) my mortgage protection ends. then when the job ends i cant reclaim due to not having a rolling 12 months in work so i risk losing my house!

damn right im picky mate. ive worked continually since leaving school in '84 and im not going to risk my house to help the unemployment figures look better for you!

may your high horse never become lame!

To add to the above, my wife was made redundant from her well-paid job of 19 years at the end of February. She's been paying into the system since she was 15 (the age at which we could leave school as it was) and she's now being treated like a second-class citizen by the agencies of Government who should be serving her best interests.

Jobs for everyone? In cuckoo land maybe but from where we're sitting..............

Mark, you're reading the Tory press too much matey.
