I think Dale could do a reasonable job of that slot as long as he doesn't do his overly camp act. He sometimes feels the need to really act camp and throw in innuendo and smut at every opportunity rather than just being himself.

I thought Marky Boy Radcliffe had lost the afternoon show when he signed off the last time. I liked Mark and Liz or Emma is the afternoons. I hope Dale will prove good. I wonder if he will have a sidekick? Unless this is just a one off?

I'm disappointed Richard Allinson was not available for this gig.

There's apparently going to be 2 new "features" - You Pick the Pops (Dale's version of the non-stop oldies?) and The Winton Connection.

I always liked Mark Radcliffe standing in for Steve Wright because he was on when I was on holiday.

Sadly this is not the case next week.

He started out with, and was sacked from, for some minor on-air misdemeanor, Radio Trent.

I agree with Mark O - a bit bland, really.

Also agree about the Darlings. What with Mika, Scissor Sisters, and a discussion on Musical Theatre it all got a bit too gay for me.

I'm not going to bother listening to Dale covering for Steve but I would recommend the top 10 from this week in '77 on POTP when Tom Watson DID win the Open at Turnberry...

Yes he was, I didn't hear all of it but easy on the ear. Enjoyed Maureen Lipman as well.

If the Beeb MUST have "celebs" presenting, they could do a lot worse than Maureen. She is so entertaining, and has a wealth of stories to tell.

I do like her, but I recall she presented something on TV a while back and wasn't very good. I think she needs to react to someone but is a bit stiff on her own.

I think you're right. She's great with anecdotes - but they need to be elicited by someone asking the questions. I seem to recall her guesting on Michael Parkinson's (much-missed) Sunday Supplement show ages ago and she was such a good listen, as always.

They certainly are. Anyone remember the incident some years ago, when Pick Of The Pops was previously on Saturdays, and after the news break, instead of the next chart you got a repeat of the first part of the show! Very much an OOPS! moment I think Embarassed
I think Richard Allinson (Who's show followed POTP then) was a little fed up of people contacting him about it (not that he could have done anything about it) As I remember, to his credit, he kept his cool.

Yes, I heard it to. Quite amusing.

Actually, the giveaway is the manner in which Dale follows the news with "Thank you very much..." and gets on with it.

I was surprised that Dale is running the desk. Seems to forget to put Sally fader up for her mic sometimes Laughing... Does seem to crash the news as well. I think a few jingles in the shows would break it down a little. Also playing the trailers before the traffic instead afterward seems a little Irish, and not what the others do. Laughing

Well he has been known to do good old-fashioned "DJ" work in years gone by - back in the days when such persons actually had to spin platters and cue carts. These days it's mostly server driven so a monkey could do it. Even Ms. Kennedy drives her own desk, if rumour is correct!
