I think it's the way forward. New trains are being rolled out over the next few years. I can't see it will cut time getting from A to B.

The problem with electric trains is - they need electricity to run. A fuse blows in Bath and the trains stop in Clapham. The whole network is down. Anyone got a nail or a kitkat wrapper?

I'm sure one of the new cars can pull the carriages without electric? I think they are called Hydro Electric trains.

Fascinating idea and totally green too.
I'm sure there's more potential in using steam as motive power if only a practical, clean way of creating it could be developed.
