It has a very similar interface to iTunes but doesn't require you to store the music on your machine (Mac, PC, Linux).
Instead, you download a "helper" application which then helps you to browse for the music online, play it in exactly the same way as you would in iTunes, even create playlists etc. The key is that you can't download it.
However, it doesn't matter as long as you're online - and you have the benefit of an absolutely massive online collection of music. So far, I've found everything I've searched for and I've found stuff from particular artists I didn't even know existed.
Every so often there's an ad placed in between tracks, but you can buy out this option for a subscription which also gives you a higher quality option as well. I have Spotify running on all machines in our house, and on my Mac, which has a good surround sound system attached, the sound really is very good indeed.
