Just caught the first few seconds of his show today before switching off.

"It's the Big Show on Friday 1st August 2009", I've just been informed.

What a berk.

Whereas if you'd listened a little further then you would have heard him admit his mistake.

Do you know what a mistake is Colby or are you infallible?

The golden oldies are terrific today. Pity you switched off, Colby.

I don't mind SW at all, these days. He's got quite a dry wit, and not averse to poking fun at himself.

Whatever they are they'll all be on either my iTunes or Spotify.

The Big Show indeed......

Could not agree more Colby.

Had the misfortune to listen to his interview (pre-recorded) with Katie Price today.

In a word dreadful.

I mean, Katie Price!!! Gawd help us all.

If an "interview" with such a talentless and gormless person as her isn't an exercise in dumbing-down then what is? I'm certainly glad I avoided The Big Show! Shocked

Most listened too and longest running afternoon show with the same presenter on UK Radio. So I guess he can make a mistake. Love the show...

It might be the longest listened too show featuring Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio 2 after lunch this millenium but it changes nothing!

Does the cringing medicrity still have Gervais on every week, like he used to? And Babs Windsor, star of Carry On up the East End?

To me, Essex Boy is like The Sun. Stuck in the eighties. It's not whether they are good or bad, it's that they are still doing it at all!

His last trailer was simply awful with him singing, I dont listen to the show now too many silly impressions, singing and talking over records and stuff. Get rid and let Johnnie Walker fill the slot

That trailer was simply dire - I gave up listening to SW a long time ago, and it's hard to believe that he's still doing exactly the same show after all these years. Has he never thought of doing something else? Rolling Eyes

Two on-air trail packages that make R2 increasingly unbearable at most times of the day: (1) Chris Evans and (2) Steve Wright. Dire - in both cases.

I know how Chris Evans fans must feel... I honestly cannot understand why Wrighty is disliked so!
I can see he's not to everbody's taste of course but all in all I'd have thought he would be pretty acceptable listening at that time of day...
I don't like Mr Evans at all and, not wanting to be rude anymore.. Wink I can see why folk would turn him and his shouty style off - as I do.

I missed the big show for a while while his stand in was on but, did I hear him bring another "Character" into the show recently? like Sid the manager? I thought they were a great part of the show, particularly the way Wrighty rattled the phone as he answered it.. made me laugh anyway.

I hope Wrighty will go on for many years yet... and of course .. he will. Razz

I'm the same. It seems that Wrighty and Evans are always coupled together on this forum, but they are both very different presenters. Wrighty's approach is I feel still miles more professional and all round a much better show than Evans'. I still try and catch Wrighty when I'm driving home, but can't stand the smugness that bellows out at 5.05!

There is some bloke called Barry from Watford now... heard a few seconds of him. I must admit, I do have a bit of a thing for the Old Woman.

I just can't listen to Radio 2 in the midweek afternoons, except for when one (or even better -both) are on leave. To me there seems very little to choose between Wright & Evans, that is the most likely reason for their being coupled together. Mostly that they both shout and I think the charge of smugness can also be applied to Wright as well as Evans. Possibly the only difference, does Evans have a pack (if that is the correct collective noun) of performing seals in the studio with him?

Quite posibly. One thing they most certainly have is a herd of sycophants in the studio with them; laugh and clap hysterically at the presenter's jokes or watch your backs around the time of contract renewal!

Suggestion..... if the BBC could buy Steve Wright for what he's worth, and sell him for what he THINKS he's worth, they wouldn't need to charge a licence fee!

I'm not a massive Evans fan, but that does seem unfair. Foxy and Saunders aren't sycophantic to him and do know they're own stuff and speak their mind. With good business and sport coverage, they are not there simply to clap like an epileptic seal or feed lines.

It always sounds to me as though CE is trying to belittle Johnny Saunders, constantly interrupting, poking fun at him and not allowing him to do his thing. Foxy handles Evans better these days, she remains her own person.

That's because he absolutely has to be in control, and the reason why so many people who work in broadcasting dislike him so much.

Excellent. Do you think his own sound FX (applause, whoops, sycophantic laughter) were cued at the moment he managed to extricate himself from the vehicle?

I'm impressed at the way he manages to hide most of his body behind the tie. Good ploy!

I'm pretty impressed that he managed to get the thing into that garage.

Less impressed that he needs a 4-litre Range Rover to run about Central London, though.

Another candidate for my "two weeks to feeling terrific course"...

What SW needs is one of those cars Captain Scarlet drives - where the door complete with the driver's seat comes out - so you can just slide off.

What he should do, is park his RR in front of his garage , then push it in. If he parks half way in backwards first, then he has only to push it and pull it half way in or out- that's gotta be easier than doing an impression of a mating Walrus on the back seat of his car.

Too right. You'd think he'd buy something smaller like a Nissan Micra! (I doubt his ego would permit that, though).

Why would someone want to drive a bloody Range Rover around London? It's unbelievable cause in there talky bits they all moan about big cars in London. Rolling Eyes... It reminds me of the days when DLT drove a Range Rover into London when he was at Radio One. That's because he lived on a farm outside of the capital.

He was much the same the other week when he covered. He needs to get that treated and give himself a break from presenting. Bobbie Pryor is another one who has recurrent voice problems.
