Anyone rec all these guys? I remember them from when I was a kid. The Seekers had a great folk sound- "Georgy Girl!", "The Carnival Is Over" & so on. The New Seekers were a bit plastic, but they had a number one hit and the top commercial with the same song= I'd Like To Teach the world To Sing/ Buy the World A Coke.
Both have compilation albums out now & in the charts. I downloaded both
Anyone else remember them?

Yes I remember them both, preferred the original Seekers to the new ones though.

I wonder what has brought about the release of compilation albums from them both around the same time?

I remember the Seekers well. They were a firm fixture of the sixties and a very good one. I was into Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd by the time the other lot came on the scene and I thought they were dreadful (as did most other people of my age, I seem to recall)!

Publishers recognising that "nostalgia" is a big thing at the moment. Just look at all the TV ads which have a 60s or 70s theme to them.

I really liked "Island of Dreams" by the Seekers plus, although quite young, I fancied the girl singer too... Embarassed
Australian weren't they?

Being of 'a certain age' I can remember both in their respective heydays. My father is a fan of the original Seekers. Yes, I liked them too. I also liked The New Seekers, especially 'Circles'.

Yes, i was not a big fan of the New Seekers, but i did like Teach the World to Sing & the coca Cola ad.
In terms of music from that era, the Seekers CD is competing with the Crazy world Of arthur Brown as my most played oldies!

SFF, "Island of Dreams" was by the Springfields! Dusty went solo shortly after.
The original seekers were really good.

I was going to say the same about Island Of Dreams but I think the Seekers did it on an album of theirs that I have.

Of course it was... silly me. I can hear Dusty singing it now.
So was I also wrong about them being Aussies? Laughing
I'll have to look up their hits...

Both The Seekers and The New Seekers were good, in their own way, in their time.

The Seekers were all Australian. When they broke up in 1969 one of them, Keith Potger, found sundry British musicians to form The New Seekers, the sum of which you could say was much greater than their individual parts; Lyn Paul, bless her, was a particularly weak singer but so long as she didn't sing alone very much you didn't notice.

A version of the group, containing Paul Layton of the original lineup, toured the 70s shows in 2006/7. I saw them at the annual Butlins do - they were absolutely sh...aving cream.

The "new" Greatest Hits "And More" album is of course a record company exercise in extracting as much money as possible from back catalogue, as is The Seekers. Both groups had excellent double album compilations in the shops for under £10 but they weren't selling. Condense them onto one disc, give it a garish new cover and a bit of advertising, and some people will happily pay more, seemingly - the same has been done recently with Val Doonican, Roger Whittaker and Barber, Ball and Bilk.
