Sir Cliff's "new" single Singin' The Blues (yes, the old Guy Mitchell/Tommy Steele number) is getting its first play on Terry Wogan's show tomorrow morning at 8.45.
You never know, it might be good, but the odds are against.
It's not actually released until 14th September, and the album "Reunited", which consists of many of his hits re-recorded is out a week later.

Singin' the Blues eh?... should be interesting, I really liked that song when I was a kid... the Guy Mitchell version was better imo.
I don't mind Cliff and I wished he'd done more lively numbers or covers back in the 80s and 90s instead of so many boring ones.
I liked the 50s classic he recorded in the 80s but can't think what it was now... was it Daddy's Home? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

They never had one as far as I know, that was some Gold station. He is rarely played though.

Well, what did you think - Be honest (as Eric Morecambe would say)...
Cliff sounds as though he's got someone holding him by the sphericals; either that or they haven't mixed it properly.
Sounded very Nick Lowe/Dave Edmunds-ish. Shame they didn't do it. _________________ Ron |

My question is : what is the point? Cliff's remade an iconic record that really couldn't be bettered. Pontless. _________________ MiS |

Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe did do 'Singin' The Blues' in the 70's, as Rockpile. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Nothing special really. I prefer either of the originals.

Well it's on sale now, and they have flooded the shops with it (unlike the last one, which was only sold in Woolworth ). CD and 7-inch single.
Sarah played it this morning, after the 7 o'clock news, and remarked that it was an odd choice of song to release. I was struck more by how awful it sounded on digital radio - the vocal was so far back in the mix that it was almost inaudible. I turned on the old analogue one (admittedly the hifi tuner) and it was much better. _________________ Ron |

It was awful. I remarked to my husband that it sounded like he was singing in the house next door to the band. This must be the vocal equivalent of "vanity publishing". _________________ Minx

Cliff's version of 'C'mon everybody' from his new album got the thumbs down on Juke Box Jury on my local BBC station recently! |

The album is out on Monday. There is a single CD of 22 songs, and a double CD "Special" edition which contains three extra tracks. The download album contains all 25.
The download "single" contains three tracks not on the album, the 7" two and the CD one
Why does it have to be so complicated?
Nearly all the tracks are Cliff's hits from the 60s, re-recorded with the Shadows. I've listened to the samples of them all and have just one thing to say:
Why? _________________ Ron |

The 7" single contains 3 tracks - Singing The Blues, Dancing Shoes & We Say Yeah while the CD has Singing The Blues & A Voice In The Wilderness. The download single contains all 4. |

Does he get royalties from the amount of times Duffy (Phil Mealey's character, not the singer) puts 'Miss You Nights' on the jukebox on 'Early Doors'? _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I'm not absolutely sure of the rules, but I believe, if more than 15 seconds is played, then yes he does.
This explains the infuriating promotional audio thing that Sainsbury's have in their entertainment section, which just plays tiny clips of everything. The rule also applies to ice cream vans - they are only supposed to play 15 seconds worth [at a time]. _________________ Ron |

Got the box set of the album which comes with a bonus 3 track CD EP and a jigsaw.
The album is excellent! |

I think a 'jigsaw' would be handy for most of Cliff's recent recorded output, 500watts would be a good spinning speed.
I thought the TV interview with Piers Morgan was just a 'snow job' revealing little about Cliff, except perhaps that he is a tax exile for four months of the year and has Cilla Black for a neighbour. |

I agree about the Piers Moron interview! Typical ITV candyfloss with 'Coming up in the next part' bits for viewers that they think have low attention spans. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

"Wired For Sound" was the Cliff Richard track I really liked. Came out about the time Walkmans first came on the market |
