I've looked in here many times and decided I had to join because Johnnie Walker isn't mentioned in this thread! (Not that I can see anyway)

He's been my favourite for years - and I was lucky enough to talk to him on his show last year Very Happy

The lovely and sexy voiced Richard Allinson comes a close second - but he hasn't been around as long as Johnnie, so Johnnie gets my vote.

'Get a Move On!'

'If you don't start making more sense we're gonna have to put you in a home!'

people on the Mystery Voice used to even start asking to be put in a home - ah, the banter with Martin Shankleman and Sally
drivetime in the good old days (sorry, some reminising was necessary)
PS Helloooo redbaron - I think I remember you from the old boards Smile

Nice photo Julia!

Johnnie's been mentioned before ( quite a lot on other threads ) but I agree, he should have his own thread here as he IS the greatest presenter!
I've constantly liked him, right back from the 60's, part of my life really, like Bruce Forsythe! ( it should be SIR Brucie!!)
Johnnie's #1
Wrighty's #2 ( not literally)

My favourite mystery voice 'insult' was the John McEnroe one 'You Cannot be serious'. Does anyone remember 'Pop the question' from his R1 days?

That '21 years Of Radio 1' tape I found last week has certainly brought back a few memories for me. There's Johnnies 'Pop The Question' Jingle on there, Terry Wogan when his show had a signature tune and his 'fighting the flab'; Ray mondo saying "What's the recipe today Jim?" on Jimmy young's show; A little vintage Janice Long when you get to the 1980s. The tape would date from 1988 And Roger Scott was introducing it. Both sides were hour long segments from Radio 1's Stereo Sequence. What a gold mine of memories are on there!

I must say I enjoyed Johnnie's show yesterday. I've been critical of him in the past, but his Sunday show has improved a lot and only infrequently now does it stray into the weird territory it inhabited when he first launched the show a year ago.

That said however I'm glad Chris is back tonight. That's what makes 2 great. Different characters with different styles.

Johnnie is the best presenter by a mile on radio 2 and it is a poorer place without his daily show. Drivetime is now Drivel-time and from the wretched trailer I hear its more like something that should be on CITV. Looking forward to hearing him on Breakfast next week, the guy is a legend

I agree 100%

I agree with that as well! When I hear the unbelievably patronising trails for "the insufferable one" they make me so annoyed that I actually switch off or tune away to something else.

That said, it's quite rare for me to be "switched on" to R2 in the first place these days. I'll certainly listen to breakfast whilst JW is in the chair, however.

I don't tune in anything like as much as I used to, but I'll be there as much as possible for JW. I even set my alarm clock for my two days off yesterday and today to make sure I didn't miss any!
