The News which some may not be happy about. I would be shocked if this too happen, as I thought a person from outside the BBC should have been considered. In the other hand why if this was considered would a commercial station release a top broadcast to work for the BBC?

I just heard this being discussed as they perused the papers on BBC Radio 2.
This could be good. Chris has calmed down alot lately, & I think he's be a good breakfast show host

The Mail do seem to copy a lot of speculation from message boards and forums and then write up a big story about this. Yes we will have to wait and see. I'm sure Wogan and Evans may have something to say during the week on their shows?

Of course, this is the same Daily Mail that claimed Simon Mayo was taking over from Ken Bruce.... and now, they claim he's taking over from Chris. Pinch of salt probably.

The only thing that gives this credence - Mayo's response to peoples' questions on Twitter have been a simple message - 'Ah. Oh. Er'.

As for the reference in the article to Liza Tarbuck's ascent in the schedules.... that's my main worry. If Liza replaces Sarah, then I can only hope that 'Carouse to Chris' starts at 7 - otherwise, I'll be waking up to a different station.

Funny how Simon Mayo crops up in these articles as well. Someone is determined to get him on to the station, by hook or by crook!

Life in Manchester isn't that bad............

This was going to be the storyline for my next blockbuster in the coffee-bar “ Rating Wars III (Battle of the Chris’ – the Egos have landed) but it seems real life has beat me to it this time…. Cool beans!

I also think Bob Shennan is also looking to change the weekday schedules around a little? Also Wogan and Kennedy would move to weekends like the other weekend presenters did. Change is something big to deal with when the listeners have got used to the same person morning after morning for 20 odd years. Wogan will leave breakfast eventually.

Sounds good to me as I'd much rather have somebody decent on Drivetime.
I don't listen to Radio 2 in the morning anyway...

This is all great publicity for the right-wing bogroll that is the Mail and disastrous for R2 if true.

"The insufferable one" might have "calmed down a lot" lately but his voice still gets on my **** and he's as annoying as hell. The guy is still a total prat, in my opinion.

Let's just hope this isn't true. If it is, we should all vote with our feet and ditch R2 completely. [Well, er, except for SOTS anyway! Smile]

So get him out of the way early..
Worst scenario for me would be for super gob to replace Wrighty..still, that's not likely to happen for years yet. Razz

Big shoes to fill, whoever tries to is in a no-win situation, and witness what happened before, on both 2 (Ken Bruce, Brian Hayes) and 1 (Mark and Lard, Zoe Ball). So I don't think any of the "usual suspects" will actually be straining at the leash to jump into them (though they'll find it hard to refuse if they're offered).

Apart from that, both Chris and Zoe have very young families - do they really want to get up at 4 in the morning (or earlier, since I can see Sarah and Terry's slots being merged 6-9 and Ken being coaxed to do an extra half hour) five days a week?

Just found RadioToday reporting it:
http://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.5136

RadioToday is actually a very reliable source (although in this case they do admit that their article is based on the Daily Mail link posted earlier); its unlike them to write articles based on speculation as a lot of their news comes from the stations themselves.

I hope the fact that reliable sources such as RadioToday have chosen to follow this story isn't a sign of things to come. I'm not a big fan of Chris and really don't want to hear him at Breakfast. Although I wouldn't mind Simon Mayo at Drivetime.

Sadly I think it will probably turn out to be true. Sad

If Mayo gets drive at least I'll attempt to listen after 5. It may perhaps be not quite as manic as the odd bits I've heard and switched off as fast as I was able to hit the switch.

It’s actually very good news (Yay!!!) for everyone except Chris Evans; he’ll have to get up early every day, and there’s always the prospect of bumping into that Moylesy chap in the lift. Ewwwwwwww. You wouldn't want to get out of bed would you, if that was in store.

Not good news for Mrs Evans either!

Mayo into Drivetime would be a step backwards.

Evans into Breakfast would alienate nearly all the present 8m audience, and I'm not so sure that the younger listeners he attracts at teatime will be as willing to switch over from Moyles or his juvenile equivalent on what is left of local commercial radio.

Someone like Mayo into Breakfast would be a safer, more logical progression, perhaps as a stepping stone before a greying Chris Evans is handed it a couple of years down the line.

Of course, on the poisoned-chalice theory I mentioned earlier, they could always offer it to Alex, as a non-controversial, transitional option hoping he'll make a hash of it, and he then confounds the odds and makes it his own until he's 70.

Now that, Ron, I do like. A lot. Smile Alex is half way there already- he just needs to tub up a bit- the sausages will help there, then, he and Wogan will be directly interchangable. Brilliant! Captain Lester... yes; I like that- it has a warm and friendly breakfast time ring to it.

Oh I don't know, he will have finished work by about 9:30 in the morning leaving the rest of the day free. It might be a better arrangement for them.

Surely that radio today article is merely quoting the MOS article so it could still be BS. I'm sure Tel will have something to say about it tomorrow.

I always used to listen to Radio 4, and it was my husband who persuaded me over to Radio 2. As it was then, it was no big deal to change, but it's getting to be a much more attractive prospect to return there these days.

Let us not forget how his previous couple of escapades into the breakfast slot ended up. Thus earning him the nickname 'Ginger Whinger'! Anyway wasn't he supposeed to be ousting Adrian Chiles from TV's The One show? Surely he won't have too much time to usurp Sir Terry too!

I'd prefer Chris Evans in the Wogan slot to Simon Mayo, who while being OK is quite dull and wouldn't inspire a following like Terry does.
I'd personallly love Johnny Walker (did I spell that right?) to take over, with Chris Evans taking over Ken Bruces slot.

As soon as he said 'I've some news meself' I knew in my bones what it would be.

Well as I said 3 and a half years ago when Evans was announced as Johnnie's successor I'd vote with my feet and not listen, I'll do the same again when Terry goes.

I'd rather sit in silence, as I often do after 5, than endure the Ginger idiot shouting at me as I wake up.

"Ginger idiot" sums it up for me too.

I wonder if Ken Bruce's time on R2 is nearly up as well? His recent printed comments and his general tone yesterday whilst being interviewed by Michael Ball seem to indicate that he's going to be the object of a "reshuffle" soon.

I wonder if they'll censor us like they did my announcement post when Evans got Drivetime? I quite enjoyed all the fuss! It got to the Guardian and the Mail. Only after Feedback said they were not censoring posts was the opening post on the thread with 100+ replies reinstated!

An interesting little footnote to the official BBC Press Release:

"Notes to Editors

In the recent RAJAR figures, the Wake Up To Wogan audience climbed to 7.93 million.
"

... a figure his replacement is destined to throw away.

I'm sorry to see Terry go, he's been there for as long as I can remember. It must have taken a lot of soul searching for him to come to this decision. I thought he sounded emmotional when he annouced it, hardly suprising.

Best wishes Terry, enjoy time with your family.

I think Terry's "decision" was assisted by Radio 2 management. They've wanted Evans in the Breakfast chair for a long time so I've no doubt that they've negotiated a best time for Terry to announce that he's stepping down.
