|
|
Seeing 'one-hit wonders' mentioned on the POTP thread on 'Radio 2 Shows', I started thinking about the numerous 'novelty' one-hit wonders that have, like them or loathe them, inhabited the charts and flown off the shelves at HMV over the years.
Everyone must have at least one they secretly like or at least end up singing along to when they inevitably hear it again each year.... (or not!)
Mine is "Startrekking" by The Firm, if not just for "Scraping the Klingons" off the starboard bow and the video that looked as though it was done for about 50p....
Least favourite is Joe Dolce's "Shaddup You Face", solely because it kept arguably the best 'should-have-been-a-No.1' of the 1980s off the top spot in 1981, namely Ultravox's "Vienna"! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Nut Rocker by B Bumble and the Stingers
Mr Bass Man by Johnny Cymbal (dreadful but it somehow caught the public's fancy in 1963)
They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha Ha by Napoleon XIV--the B side was the A side played backwards!
Lots more--over to you.
Ian. |

Remember them well Ian, and spookily, I liked them all, particularly They're Coming to Take Me Away!
I also liked "Money" by the Flying Lizards
and
"17" (or 7 teen) by The Regents. |

I enjoyed the Chris hill Christmas records - bits of hits strung together by an implausible story line.
I know that they weren't OHW, but I enjoyed the Barron Knights, two of their singles came out on a 5CD compilation set _________________ Geddon

Little Jimmy Osmond who is not so little these days.
To think people went to their local record store to part with 50p for this vinyl gem on the MGM label.
HAPPY DAYS!!!!!!!! |

St.Winifred's School Choir - "There's No-one Quite Like Grandma" and Benny Hill - "Ernie" - priceless...................AND
Frankie Howerd's "Little Fishie" (and he swam and he swam all over the dam...)
Charlie Drake's "My Boomerang won't come back"
.....and I thought Chris Evans played some rubbish. Even he wouldn't, would he ???? _________________ Standing on Ray Moore's shoulders |

Flying Lizards! There's a blast from the past. My party piece used to be a Patti Palladin impression
One hit wonders? How about the Althea & Donna Classic, Uptown Top Ranking. |
