Under government new plans parents who take Children to and from sports etc will have to have a Criminal Record Check. They could face upto £5,000 fine under new rules.

I think this is a right move. I had to undertake a CRB check for my job as a coach driver. In the other hand parents shouldn't give there children to anyone and know the person. I wouldn't give my children to just anyone.

Interpreting what you're saying from the above (it isn't easy, but I'll try!) I don't think that's really the issue. If you're asking your neighbour or other family member to drop your kids off at school as they drop their own, then that's OK. I don't think the proposed legislation is designed to cover that - and i don't see how it could be regulated anyhow. It's designed to cover more formalised relationships.
If you look at this BBC page you'll see that it relates to "regular" occurences not occasional, random ones.

I would think the worse of you if you gave your children away Mark!!! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

Yes, there will be an awful outcry (probably in the Daily Wail) when
a) some jobsworth misinterprets "occasional", or errs on the side of caution of what are pretty woolly definitions
b) someone who has passed the CRB check commits an assault against a child, no matter how serious (teachers have been advised not to touch children for fear of being accused of assaulting them)
c) someone fails the CRB check because of a false, malicious, unproven or unfounded accusation. (Wasn't the point about Huntly that although he had been accused of having sex with under-age girls nothing had been proved?) _________________ Ron |

Another example of the nanny state, all bureaucracy and red tape. |

The other consideration is, will they resource the process adequately? 11 million applications for CRB clearance are going to take some shifting. _________________ Ron |

And who's going to pay for the checks? They're not cheap! Is this another stealth tax? _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

We make our employees and job applicants pay for their own CRB checks.. after all, they are "transferable" for a period of time and, if a new staff member decides to leave after two shifts, the poor employer is stuck with the bill!
I believe they are currently £52.
What bugs me is that they can take 1 to 3 months to receive which is a long time for a new member of staff to be "accompanied" by a senior before being allowed to get on with the job they applied for...
On paper, I suppose this new ruling makes sense but no doubt it'll cause all sorts of practical problems and anguish as did the "no video cameras at the school play" rubbish.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
