No Wogan Christmas Show this year? Sad

Well according to Paul Donovan in the Sunday Times his last show will be Dec 18th.

He could always record it in advance as usual!

This is the funniest thing I've seen in years... I was crying into my coffee reading the MoS this morning

"Dear Sir,
Re: Your request for a reference for Christopher Evans.

Comrades in Arms: Evans and Matthew Bannister

Whilst he has many strong points, of which I'm sure you are aware, there are a number of issues which prevent me from endorsing him unreservedly.

Although there appears to have been a miraculous transformation recently, in the past he has suffered from the following problems:

A tendency to skateboard down the corridor at work in his boxer shorts.

An insistence on using his own toaster in the office which repeatedly set off the fire alarm.

A determination to fly his own flag from a BBC building, which led to endless meetings with angry people from the premises department.

An insubordinate attitude to authority, tending to refer to his boss as 'The Fat Controller'.

An impeccable sense of timing which led to him telling a joke about oral sex and Brussels sprouts on the day I was due to defend him to the BBC Board of Governors.

An unreliable attendance record which culminated in him taking the day after the Christmas Party as a 'sickie'.

A tendency to flounce out if not given Fridays off.

Apart from these minor defects he is, of course, a brilliant broadcaster who has single handedly changed the face of British radio and an all round good egg. I'm very proud to have been associated with bits of his career. "

Brilliant!!! I love it

This is in the MoS as well, Clive. The Moyles is deffo on the run, if he wasn’t shaking in his boots, when asked about Chris Evans going head to head with him, he would have said, Chris who? But instead, he’s let us all know that he’s terrified, run out of ideas, and now the diplomacy is over, will be slain in the rating wars to follow.

I'm sure this "Moyles versus Evans at Breakfast" thing is being stoked up either by the BBC Press Office (in which case they should be ashamed) as a means of building up interest ahead of the first Evans broadcast in January - or it's that insidious rag, the Mail, working up something out of nothing in order to increase sales.

Either way, it's an absolute disgrace that the BBC is even allowing this competition to come into being at all, and it proves that both stations are setting out to compete with each other for a very similar audience.

It's another reason why the senior management at both Radio 2 and the corporation as a whole should be vilified by Licence Fee payers for allowing this ridiculous situation to arise in appointing the insufferable Evans to breakfast.

The two networks are supposed to complement either other not compete head-on for the same audience demographic. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I still don't get it.. why would Radio 2 want to gain young spotty listeners from Radio 1? that's where they're supposed to fester isn't it? with the likes of that Moyles creation...

Don't do it Terry... it's not too late..

If you talk to those young spotty listeners they'll all tell you that the insufferable Evans is a prat - one who's over 40 as well! My son and his friends, male and female, are all in their 20s and not one of them rates Evans at all, so there's no way he's going to attract them to listen to R2 breakfast.

My advice to Terry would be get out now and to hell with it. The standard of programme management at R2 is at an all-time low and it's only going to get worse!

No, really, Rachel (er, sorry, R2Icon) it really is a matter of opinion.

PS: I don't know why I keep confusing you with Rachel, but what the heck.

Yes, I also think Moyles was already feeling humiliated by being beaten in the ratings stakes by Wogan on R2.
I also don't get Moyles logic. Why would Radio 2 listeners who don't like Evans switch over to Moyles on Radio 1 as an alternative?
Unless he meant that some of his Radio 1 lisateners will switch to 2 to check out Evans & return to 1 when sick of him?
Whatever, he is rattled

I'm very clear about one thing: that my opinions are my own and that's a fact. My opinion about the appalling way R2 is being managed and the way our money is being wasted is in itself a fact. The fact is that my opinion is my opinion as indeed yours is yours.

Perhaps your problem is that you're unable to accept other people's opinions where they differ from your own, eh Rachel? (Er, sorry, R2Icon. Ooops again!. Silly me!).

Whatever our opinions are, and however they're derived, the fact is that they're our own opinions, I think you'll have to agree. Or maybe you'll wish to argue the toss about that, too?

I don't think I've seen this mentioned yet. If you check out Chris Evan's blog last week, he said how many days until he starts doing the breakfast show. I've done the maths and he's starting on Monday, 11th January 2010 (E&OE, of course...).

Phew! That means we have 11 days more breakfast-time respite than I'd assumed. Good news!

I'm surprised Chris Evans is too host breakfast in the normal slot where Terry left it. You only changing the presenter not the show timings.

Why? None of the other presenters are leaving, so why change their show timings as well?

I noticed the 'Ginger Whinger' was trying to do that this evening. I put on my radio at about 7:05pm and my ears were assaulted with a banshee howl that definitely didn't sound like any of the newscasters. Did they even have a 7:00pm bulletin and if so how long did the news reader get before Desmond Carrington started?

Then he must have quite a few of those as today isn't the only time I've said "Shut up Evans! you've finished now, give the news reader a go"!

He was on time for the 7 o'clock news but he played another song in case they sorted out the problem in the meantime, they didn't so he went to D Carrington without broadcasting the news. Hardly the end of the world.

Did anyone notice what he said after playing the record though? "It's 3 minutes past 7... I just thought, I'll be saying that a lot more from January"

Either a mistake, or him admitting that the show will eat into Sarah's current slot?

Breakfast will be starting at 7am in the new year. It won't be eating into Sarah Kennedy as she will be finishing earlier. I don't know whether Dawn Patrol will be starting earlier.

Chris said 2 hours isn't long enough for Breakfast on Wednesday show.
