BBC Radio 2 announces a major four-part documentary series which profiles a quartet of enduring and celebrated icons of British comedy to transmit from Tuesday 15 September 2009.

My first thought is, what a strange choice for radio, since, with the exception of Howerd, they were almost exclusively visual comics who achieved their popularity on television

I have no qualms, Radio 2 usually do these sort of documentaries very well and I'm looking forward to listening.
