You're right - Leona Lewis. She is the only one, out of all the finalists listed on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X_Factor_(UK) who can still be considered a successful singing star - she managed to strike gold in America as well.
Some of the others may be found on the cabaret circuit. Jonathon Ansell (the lead singer of G4) had a solo album earlier this year.
I remember watching the final stages of Series 1, when Steve Brookstein edged out G4 (but the temperamental Rowetta Satchell was the one with the real voice). After that, they all passed me by, until the very first programme of the current series, which was remarkable only for the fact that for 90 minutes there was a steady procession of people who thought they could sing to a karaoke machine - all but three of them, strategically placed just before the commercial breaks, couldn't. _________________ Ron |

You must bear in mind they've already done at least 3 auditions before we see them. So we laugh at them being deluded but it's really because the producers have told them they're brilliant. Then the poor sods are wheeled on to be booed by 2000 cretins and insulted by 4 bitchy queens.
It's a loathsome show and it's continued success is horrible. |

Stage-managed, edited out of all recognition to reality, surreal, really.
I could only take the one episode. It's not even "so bad it's funny". _________________ Ron |

Oh lord, I watched Sunday nioght's shsow to keep my missus company....
Cheryl Cole and Whitney Huston were awful last night
Cheryl Cole held the mike close to her mouth throughout her perfomance, presumably so we could not tell what parts she was miming. Terrible song too.
Whitney Huston had a dress nightmare, straps bust and it was too long. Terrible song too. And when Dermot interviewed her, well she wasn't all there, obviously 'on something', appalling.
I was hoping Simon Cowell would speek his mind like he usually does
The two X-factor acts were not good either.
Awful. _________________ -

Two weeks in a row Simon Cowell has strived, and succeeded to disgorge any credibility he has as a judge of a "talent" contest. Last night’s decision was crazy. How can he say it’s about the singing then let Lucy go? He’s more duplicitous than the Government –it’s no wonder they want him as a Lord. |
