While i am looking forward to chris' breakfast show, having sarah kennedy's show finnish half an hour early is bad news for me. I usually tune in at about 6.30 & thoroughly enjoy her show. the perfect, relaxed way to start the day while getting up, doing bits & pieces & getting rady to go to work.
To be honest, i would be quite happy for sarah to take over Breakfast & Evans to stay on drivetime
i know it is not going to happen |

Last night, Chris said, the breakfast show would be 2 hours long. The night before he said, he is taking the Drivetime format to Breakfast ( with a few tweaks). Did you catch his practice session for his Breakfast voice?
Needs a little work but he's getting there. Jonny Saunders' breakfast voice, on the other hand needs filing down. If you guys listen to drivetime, you'll find out loads about the new breakfast show, then you wouldn't have to speculate so much. I know....... speculating is fun. |

I am. I can't wait- it means that I can get all my daily radio listening done before 2pm... woohoo! Free time! Evening walks are back on the menu after chrimbo. I can see it now ... the seafront, the icy wind in my face, the chips.... bliss. It's a bit of Blackadder plan... put all the good radio on in the morning- have the rest of the day off. Makes sense to me. |

Oh yes. My life is planned around my favourite radio shows, Channel 4 news at 7pm, Coronation Street and my Yoga classes. That is all the outside entertainment, I entertain. At the moment things are pretty tight in the 5 to 8pm slot, Chris saying cheery bye just as Jon Snow is saying hello , it's a quick change but the new schedule gives me loads of options- I can move my Yoga Classes ( which currently clash with Channel 4 news two days a week) forward to 5:30 where they used to be. Yay!! The other three days will be spare for walking etc... |

I don't need to speculate Rachel as I won't be listening, the same way as I don't listen to Drivetime!

I'm not surprised that other forums are reporting that Evans talks about his new upcoming show during Drivetime shows, like practicing his breakfast voice (as if that will ever change) gloating that SK is being shunted earlier yet and saying his two hour-show is not enough
I still don't listen to Drivetime unless I want to make a point and can confirm my fears by listening for a bit.
I've just had him on for 10 mins, unbelievably Stones' 'Brown Sugar' was playing when I switched on - gggggrrrr 50,000 tracks to choose from - and of course Evans talked over the last minute of the track.
Phone call to tennis player Stephan Egberg... why on R2 ?
It would be hard if he ever had to play Federer.... yeah
M62 lane blocked....
Accident M18 southbound....
Evesham southbound.... oh that's near me but I'm not going there tonight.....
Somebody playing The Chain badly on a bassoon gets huge applause
Evans shouts out the last minute.....
A rather awful 10 minutes.

I would question this as only the other month you were saying Evans would never move to Breakfast (yeah, right) but I can see logic here. My routines will change. Perhaps I'll try more lie ins, perhaps I'll expand my music horizons and buy more CDs to listen to in the car, perhaps I might buy a DAB and try something different.
Makes sense to me! |

John, it can't be any worse than last nights show - if you didn't get the chance to hear it be thankful.
The last hour of the show consisted of Evans constantly shouting "KEY CHANGE" at the top of his voice through every song played due to an interview earlier with someone or other talking about key changes.
This is radio at it's worst. I would honestly rather have Zoe Ball banging on about her kids than listen to this. The only reason I didn't turn the radio off was because I was actually doing something far more important and I just didn't have time to walk over to the radio and do it. Honestly.
The sooner this oaf goes to breakfast the better for everyone. Except the Togs of course. |

I didn't think Chris would move to breakfast ( for a whole truck load of reasons not worth mentioning now- what do I know?). I was quite shocked, well ok then, a little surprised with the move but as it turns out it will be good for me, and if Chris moving to Breakfast gives you the drive to expand your horizons, it will be good for you too. Win Win! |

This confirms my worst fears. I have been out and bought a lovely new DAB stereo for the kitchen, so I can seek alternative stations when the dreaded Evans takes over Breakfast. Nothing can replace Tel, but almost anything will be better than being shouted at by that awful voice in the mornings.

Brown Sugar - was one of last night's Gobstoppers, John. It was requested by a listener!
The Bassoon was fab last night, it was much better than the Recorder a few weeks ago, and that was something else.
Chris' Breakfast voice- I don't think he should try. Chris is like Marmite. He shouldn't try to be anything other than the fab tasting toast covering that he is.
You have to listen for a minimum of 18 minutes to "get" the show. Those are the rules apparently...
What rules?
The rules of Broadcasting of course! |

Well, that's not quite what I said. What I meant was the show is put together in 18 minute segments- so if you listen to only 10 minutes , you'll miss the thread running through that segment.
Hang on! I'm having an internal logic conflict, resulting in a question. What if you listen for 18 minutes but start listening half way through one segment and stop half way through the next? What then? That would be like missing the point twice - that can't be good- maybe I haven't quite grasped this 18 minute rule thing- I'll go away to be rebriefed.
As quick as ever my processors have come up with a soloution ...... "listen to the entire show".... I knew there'd be an easy answer... It's great being a cyborg. |

was that Key Change wednesday?
It started out very well, & the guitarist he talked to about key changes in songs was interesting.
But then later in the show he went bonkers and kept shouting "KEY CHANGE!" at every key change in records
It drove me bonkers & i had to switch off |

Well the last few postings have confirmed that the show is as bad as ever. Around 2 years ago I was in a car and Evans Driveltime trash came on and I was forced to listen. It was the worst piece of radio I have heard and to be honest it nearly gave me road rage. Utter drivel and it seems it hasnt changed. So he will now grace our airwaves for 2 and a half hours, I cant wait to see the ratings tumble and I hope it is enough for him to be driven off the station and go elsewhere. Why wont Radio 2 listen and understand and appreciate that the listeners want proper, sensible professional radio disc jockeys who play records without shouting and screaming over them. We also dont want the likes of Alan Carr and his awful trailers ramming down our throats nor do we want television stars and celebrities who no other than to say tex me and tell me what you had for your breakfast type crap! |

Just a thought all those who heard this key change non sense and found it annoying send a complaint to the BBC. They usually acknowledge them and claim to look into it and discuss it with the production team. |

Chris Evans has been playing Glenn Miller tracks this week.
Yesterday it was Moonlight Serenade but the manner in which he includes a Glenn Miller track on his show is appalling.
He talked over the intro of the track
He read out a message from a listener about a cub/scout meeting during the record.
He talked over the end and did his own little da-da-da-ra da-da-ra right at the final flourish.
Today he talked over the end of In The Mood.
Now, how can anyone call that quality broadcasting?

I'm only listening to the five minutes that I might comment on, no more.
I can only comment on Evans' appalling broadcasting methods if I have listened to them first hand, Toggy.
Evans has no respect for music nor for the listeners who like it, and so cannot be suitable for the breakfast programme. The controller has made a poor decision |

A case in point this week. Someone texted in to express their appreciation of a certain slot and said something like "it would be nice to have a slot like that every night".
Evans' response? "We'll produce the programme - you just need to listen".
I think this might even have been the same night he was calling the sports guy "the bassoon buffoon". _________________ Minx

That's not helpful. Millions of people are about to have their daily routines altered because the BBC in their infinite wisdom ( ) have decided they don't give a fig about Wogan's core audience and employed Crass Evans to attract a different listener. I imagine that a lot of the current breakfast audience are trying out Evans for size, and reacting just as John W has - with distaste and horror.
Many of Radio 2's rivals must be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of their impending increase in figures! _________________ MiS |

I feel really sorry for Sarah Kennedy. Still don't know if she's been reduced to 1 hour or will start earlier. If I was her, I'd tell the BBC to stick it, and enjoy a nice lie-in (obviously not listening to Evans ) _________________ MiS |

Unless she's leaving it to the bitter end saying she's gone. I think we need to listen to the show first before anyone hangs him. I really think the prospect of Commercial Radio trying to over take Radio 2 breakfast is a little over reacting. I think the change was needed. Wogan can't last forever and the show has run out of legs. I wonder if Wogan will continue with CIN every year on the Radio, or is Evans going to take over and the TV show too?
I think the whole team is going over with him. I wonder if Sally is? That would mean Lynn could be moved around again. Unless Bobbi or Nick D come to afternoons? |

I don’t think that is fair, John, you ask for 1940s music, and you get it in a mainstream daytime programme , then you say … yeah but it’s American 1940s music , then you find issue with way it’s broadcast on a show that always broadcasts that way . If I were a big fan of 1940s music, I’d be jolly pleased that some of “my music” had found its way onto Drivetime , and as a result may attract a wider fanbase. You didn’t really expect that Chris would don his 1940s BBC accent, introduce the track, and then put the needle on a crackly old record; then sit in silence until the last Trumpet did you? For me, music on the radio is just a sample of what is out there; if I like a particular track – I’ll buy it, and then listen to it properly. Radio is about fun, entertainment, having a good time, and getting a taster of a healthy dose of music that may temp me to part with some cash at the same time.
I’m a huge fan of Punk Rock (an odd bent for a vicar’s wife, I know), Sex Pistols, Sham 69, Stranglers, Boomtown Rats, Public Image Ltd, Tenpole Tudor, Rezillos, Schoogirl Bitch, X-Ray Specs etc etc but I wouldn’t advocate or demand that R2 play lots of it, I have it all – cos that is my thing, but when they do play the odd track, I’m pogo-ing around our kitchen with the best of em. Life’s too short to get angry about what is on or not on the radio.
You should have seen the look on Mrs Brough’s face when she walked in on me at the Church Hall before my Yoga Class, bouncing around like Tigger, blasting out Anarchy for the UK at number 11. She stood there open mouthed until I turned it off, when I said … now that’s exercise and relaxation!! |

Hmmm. I remember when JW was doing drive time and would move to breakfast to cover for Wogan. They tried moving Sally to mornings, but I don't think it ever really worked as it did in the evenings. Now JW usually gets Bobbi or Nick if Lynn takes hols at the same time.
I suspect Sally's not a morning person!

I don't think you can read too much into people moving on - it happens all the time as staff look for more and wider experience. One chap was moving to telly "but he's coming back again" - sounds liked a fixed-period secondment to me.
