I thought we should have a thread to mark the last few weeks of this institution.

Is it me, or does he sound more Irish now he's handed in his resignation?

The BBC should shut off Oxford Street like they did for the U2 concert and get him to broadcast from the top of Broadcasting House on his last day. I doubt that would happen, and it would be bloody cold up there. I think they should do something special instead of a slice of cake.

One of the key features of Wogan's success is that his presentation style is under-stated, even if his humour is bizarre at times. Somehow, something as ostentatious as broadcasting from the roof of BH (or Western House, for that matter) just wouldn't be right.

It's a shame Wogan's not running stuff about the DG any more. A live show from the DG's office, with some of the show's regular contributors in the studio, might have been fun!

Indeed. And last time I checked, he's not resigning! Now's not the time to mourn the loss of a great show, let's celebrate the last 3 months! Very Happy

Mourn-why? Celebration in my book.

Can't wait for Chris Evans to take over from El Tel.

Wonder how many more ways he can find to crash the eight o'clock pips before he goes! Laughing

He should drive right though the 8 am pips and on into Kenny Bruce's show with the full length meggamix version of Oh Superman by Laurie Anderson.... Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh.... throw in the odd word now and agian .... that would be funny.... as long as we could hear all the other folk in the background running around trying to switch it off.....

"He's locked himself him"
"We can't switch it off from here Bob"
" It's no good tapping on the window- we've tried that" " He's solid gone"

Rumour has it Richard Allinson is covering in the period after Wogan exits until Chris Evans takes over.

We shall see.

Richard has been like a rash on Radio 2 over Christmas' past , so it's a good bet he'll be back again this year. Christmas day is on a Friday this year, the daytime presenters rarely do live shows during Christmas week, so Friday 18th will be their last this year, you can be sure of stand-ins from Monday 21st onwards.

Actually it's Johnnie Walker who is doing it, so the rumours are wrong.

Except for Ken, of course - clinging to the desk until as late as possible. Glad of it though, I always look forward to him playing that comedy version of 12 days of Christmas.

Wogan actually finishes on 18th December. The we will have comedy stars and people from the TV world presenting shows over the festive period.

I have a funny feeling Ant and Dec will be on at some stage?

Mark,

Johnnie Walker is doing the breakfast show until CE takes over in January. He told his 'Evening With Johnnie Walker' audience just over a week ago, so it ain't a rumour, it's fact!

I always had this bizarre idea that he actually comes from Birmingham and that it's all put on. I haven't seen so much Oirish since Finian's Rainbow. Wouldn't be surprised if he says "Begorrah" and "Bejaysus", calls people "eejits" and talks about the little people Rolling Eyes

Where do you get that idea from? I thought their ITV contract doesn't let them do anything else.

Seems when Steve Wright interviews stars from the TV world around this time of the year, we hear them doing something over the festive period.

Or, more usually, they've got a book out! Smile
