I have noticed that the first 30 minutes of Steve show sounds like a commercial radio show. On Mondays show he played 3 trailers alongside a numerous number of jingles and the music.

Oh he did mention he would be on the network for the next 17 years

Shocked

Glad (for Steve's sake) that somebody listens to his awful "show" - because I don't.

I notice that for the first 30mins we only get SW, no sidekicks, then we get factiods for only 20 mins until 2:50 and then non-non-stop oldies, after that at 15:30 we get all 3 presenters until the end, except during the recorded interview bits. So overall the 2 sidekicks do very little even when they turn up.

Why does he keep repeating the names of his lackeys during the "factoid" segment?

SW: Here's TIM SMITH
TS: A 45 year old man who is still crawling up to his boss is officially called a spineless sidekick
SW: And now here's the OLD WOMAN
OW: A batty old dear than keeps cackling away in the corner is a right pain in the ass
SW: And now here's TIM SMITH
TM: A show that hasn't changed it format in 25 years on the radio goes by the name of the Big Show
SW: And now here's the OLD WOMAN

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............................................................

Had been listening to some of Tim covering Alex last week. I do think the show was slightly mirrored like Steve and the words are similar. I would say Tim is better on his own. I wonder if Steve could handle a show on his own?

Scones. Although he did briefly mention pancakes a few minutes ago. But no mention of the congestion charge yet. Oh sorry I forgot that was yesterdays topic of the day.

Did anyone notice Steve say 'so what if the oldies are a bit late' yesterday? It made me wonder if someone had read this board!!

I wouldn't be surprised he has. I wonder if he will sign the poll in the grips section? Laughing So hopefully the 2.45pm jingle will be ditched.

Love the show Wink

It must have been right after the jingle that he said it Mark. I've not heard it. I don't often listen, but the radio had been left on in the kitchen.

Is there something wrong with the show over the last couple of weeks. He doesn't seem to prepare to read out the emails and texts and stumbles all over the words. He does seem to not have full control over the show, and seems to be in a different mood.

It's been so popular over the last 20 years or so on Radio 1 and 2. I just wonder if things have are changing under the new controller with his BIG SHOW?

Anyone noticed?

Just listening in to Steve, he was talking about his first Calculator being the size of a book..
This wasn't the case for me I have to say. My first Calculator was a "Commodore".. it was about 2" wide by 6" long by maybe 1/2" thick.
It was a creamy colour with a red digital read out - like those early electronic watches. Bought it about 1973 ish?
and... I still have it, ready for Ebay! Razz

I've noticed, and so have some people on other forums. I mentioned it in the Wogan Weekend thread.

Steve Wright must be the most embrassing DJ on the Radio. Not because he's rubbish, it's because he's been doing the same show for over 20 years and not many DJ's have sat in the same spot for that long.

Mark,

Can you please explain why doing the same job for a long time can be classed as being an embarrassment?

You've said it's not because he's rubbish so why is it? Would you say that Terry Wogan was also an embarrassment as he is guilty of doing the same thing............ ?

You can't make a statement like that and not back it up!

Helen, he can, and frequently does! Rolling Eyes

SW certainly is an embarrassment, stuck in a time warp, guilty of repeating himself (and the news!) ad nauseum. The Big show? Well he has put on weight Laughing .

Sorry to drag an old thread up but thought it'd be better than starting another one

Quote from Mr Wright when talking about Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart
"would have gone for a more enthusiastic vocal"
I had thought not bad for playing it but to slag it off before the track had finished wound me up
Bearing in mind that this show played Paris Hilton singles

I didn't hear the track this afternoon but the vocal is a bit dismal isn't it? but I did hear the Paris Hilton single what, 18 months ago? it was terrible for sure but I think Steve and his crew sent her up somewhat.. I think most of what Wright says is tongue in cheek..

Yes... I was that Steve Wright fan.. Laughing

Yeah, they're supposed to be true but you can't correct them because by the time they're read out and you've e-mailed a correction they've all gone home.
