Coffee, I mean.

I've just (well 20 minutes ago) opened a kitchen cupboard door, and the cafetiere leaped out at me. After a farcical attempt to juggle and catch all the pieces in slow motion I was left holding the lid and the glass beaker shattered into a million pieces on the floor.

Why it should have done so I don't know. It has lived peacefully up there for at least five years since someone gave it to us as a Christmas present. More than that, it has lived up there for five years untouched since the one occasion we used it, because the beverage it produced resembled sludge. Mrs R is content with instant decaf (which smells like catpee and tastes of nothing at all); I'm a tea drinker, but will sometimes have filter-machine coffee, and am a dab-hand at floating cream on the top (very naughty!)

Since this is the Coffee Bar, what's everyone's preference?

Some instant is fine, but quality deteriorates when jar has been open for a few days. I like a nice filter coffee once a day, black, and have started buying Lyons boxes of individual sachets, just pour on water and leave for 3-4 mins. Pretty good.

I love coffee in the morning, but prefer tea in the afternoons. My OH doesn't drink coffee so a proper coffee machine wouldn't really be a sensible proposition for me - I'd have to drink it all myself. Also, I don't think they tend to keep the coffee hot. Some months back I started getting Nescafe's Half-Caff, but in recent weeks it's not been available in several supermarkets.

When I was a little girl my Gran used to make Camp coffee (that lovely slim bottle with a highlander on the front) with hot milk. Maybe my tastebuds were less refined at that time, but I loved it.

We don't drink tea at all (I have some in the house though for visitors) and mostly Nescafe original made in a Denby style mug. It does something to the flavour as made in a china mug or cup it tastes different, even my mum says so! Trick is to let the water go right off the boil before making it.

We do like ground coffee, Colombian and preferably an American brand. Anyone going to Florida gets a request to go into Publix to buy me a brick of their own brand filter Colombian! We have a Melitta 2 cup machine but more often than not just make it with the jug and boiled water from the kettle.

We used to have percolated coffee on the go in our place all day but I didn't like it much... Kenco I think it was..
I preferred Gold Blend out of the tin.

A few months ago I was finding myself feeling a little bloated and uncomfortable around tea time and it was suggested that too much coffee could be the cause.
So, not thinking about my plan too much Rolling Eyes I cut out coffee, salads ( I was having a Caesar's Salad most tea times ) Rolling Eyes Apples and Anti Histamines - which I was taking every morning.

Well, I feel much better now so one of them was causing the problem!
I hope it wasn't the coffee as I love it!
I'm now trying Decaffeinated Gold Blend which isn't bad, with milk and sugar.
