Oh I missed it Becky, I turned on at about 3 30 as I forgot the time! Will listen again. It was a good year if I remember correctly.

Me too... I just knew I'd be missing a good one.
I decided to leave some work ( and my radio ) for a hour or so while I watched an old film.. big mistake. Sad

Awww, I wasn't quite a teenager in 1965 so I was just getting into pop music that year.

I know all the tracks played except Cast Your Fate To The Wind
by Sounds Orchestral, but I'm sure I'll recognise it if I surf around for it.

Hmm, hadn't occurred to me that interesting title, Girls Don’t Come by Sandie Shaw Rolling Eyes No idea what the rest of the lyric is, great sound Sandie's records though.

Hi John,

The title is actually Girl Don't Come and there is an error or typo on the playlist. From memory the song is about being stood up on a date but I haven't listened to the show yet. I had the 45 though, a Tony Hatch composition I think.

H

Edit:- it was actually a Chris Andrews composition Embarassed

Hi Becky,

You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling was the first track that came to mind as I read your opening post and remember it all so vividly! I was watching the US inauguration stuff today and it really took me back to around 1965 when I was really into American things and had just got a penfriend (remember them? Wink ) in America.

Memories eh!

I'll bet you do know it.... plenty of tinkley, rumbley piano and "stick on stick" snare drum. it also breaks into what I'd describe as a Jazzy middle section.
In fact, I'm pretty sure they used it as a TV show theme tune??? which faded out after the Jazzy bit..
What the heck was it... Confused

Ron'll know... Laughing

Heh. I do enjoy POTP, mainly for the variety of music. While I do prefer the charts from my youth (80s-90s) the earlier stuff is just as good.

I usually miss the start and my girlfriend and I try to guess the year - very difficult at this time of the year when you're getting Christmas singles crossing over! I only heard part of yesterday's first hour and thought it was 1971. D'oh! I recognised that Cast Your Fate To the Wind from around that time so I guess it was on TV a lot.

It sounds as though it should have been a TV theme, but I can't recall it as such, and there's no mention of it in the usual online places.

Drat--I missed it. I may Listen Again.

Cast Your Fate to the Wind hung around the bottom of the chart for ages and then suddenly took off. A great track--I've got it on a Pye compilation collection.

Penpal!...positively quaint sounding in the instant emailing society we now live in.....i still like to receive a letter through snail mail, though they are few and far between these days.

Just over forty years since the famous "I have a dream" speech and tomorrow Martin Luther King III, will give a reading at the Inauguration ...historic times.

Glad you enjoyed the 80's, Ian... Razz ..wasn't able to listen to that part of the show

They are historic Becky! I saw the Beatles the night after JFK was assassinated, probably the only reason I remember the date.

I just had an email from my British friend who now lives in Dallas and said there is such a mood of excitement over there. They are all full of hope for the future.

If you like the sixties and missed POTP today, it would be worth searching out on Listen Again. The year was 66 and, as ever, they played one or two less often heard pieces amongst the well-known ones.

Loved the 1962 part of this week's show ...I love the Adam Faith song Don't That Beat All with the mad violin playing all over the place.....Very Happy and love the sound of the harmonica on Frank Ifield's I Remember You and Sealed With A Kiss by Brian Hyland.....

You Don't Know Me by the wonderful Ray Charles never fails to bring a tear to my eye.... Sad what a gorgeous song that is

Plus songs from Elvis,Brenda Lee etc made for a very enjoyable first half of the programme!

With this and Sots earlier in the day some great sixties music to enjoy!

From the eighties part enjoyed hearing Just Died In Your Arms Tonight byCutting Crew,again......didn't hear all of the eighties section.

I was listening from afar and wishing I'd stuck the recorder on Sad "You Don't Know Me" is one of my all time favourites...
It all sounded terrific.

If your appetite for 60s is still unsated after that there's always Suzi Quatro's show from Friday night - concentrating on the year 1960 itself. Superb!

The Sounds Orchestral track was also the subject of a gaffe from Fluff Freeman.

He once announced it as 'Cast Your Wind To The Fates'!

It was indeed Ron!

I loved Johnnie Tillotson's Poetry In Motion followed by Freddy Cannon's Way Down Yonder in New Orleans. I actually saw both live on the same bill back in 2000 along with Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland and Little Eva. Fabulous show!

A rare opportunity to hear The Shadows sing! I'll have to give that another listen. Does anyone remember their 1975 Eurovision entry? In which they also sing.

Re Shadows songs - I've had Marvin, Welch & Farrar's 'Marmaduke' in my head whenever I've seen the poster for the Marmaduke movie on buses!

I don't think they wrote the song about the comic strip dog, though.
