Mika has been rumoured a big music star of 2007. I have heard Radio 2 playing the song.
What are your thoughts?

He has apparently been announced as 'Best New Talent of 2007' or something like that - whilst I quite like "Grace Kelly"* (probably for the "Ka-ching-ga!" at the end!), I did think it was a bit odd to label someone 'best of 2007' as the New Year is not yet a week old!
* Was I the only one to think it was by The Darkness when it was first played? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

The more I hear it, the more I like it!
It's an original song, and Mika has his own style, which I find quite refreshing after years of suffering boy band music on the radio.
Can't wait for the cd to come out now! |

I think it's good too, somebody was trying to describe it to me without success but now I know the track she was talking about.
Good yes but I'll bet it'll be played to death and the artist will slip into the bland void. |

Speaking of which, she was on SOTS this morning, in fact I am listening to her now, Some Summer Nights", same sultry sound.

right you two... getting back to the song in question what is it men have about girls wearing leather anyway (it's disgusting!)
this song is irritating me intensly - perhaps because when it was first played we were told to like it - and constantly told - this is going to be a big hit - urgh - made me hate it even more
The Smiths or The Guillemots any day please _________________ I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. |

I'll echo those sentiments - no-one tells me what I'm supposed to like, I find out for myself, and if others don't like what I like, tough. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

It's a catchy pop song, no more nor less, getting the usual saturation airplay that guarantees everyone will be heartily sick of it very quickly - it's not even released physically until Monday week (29th).
We notice it even more because there were no new releases (apart from the X-Factor thing) for three or four weeks before Christmas and this (and the Guillemots, which is quite good but may get tarred with the same airplay brush) is the first major release since then. _________________ Ron |

Is it not? Good grief, I thought it was out already given the amount of time devoted to it on R2 - so a tune is hyped up out of all proportion before it's released, only to then be, er, hyped up out of all proportion yet again once it is actually released, nay inflicted on an unsuspecting public....

The Guillemots haven't quite achieved that level of notoriety yet: hopefully they won't as I quite liked the limited amount of play they received on Bob Harris and a few other shows and still want to obtain "Through the Window Pane".
(Julia, doesn't "TtWP" contain most of what's on "From the Cliffs" too?) _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Why is it disgusting Julia, did you not see the film that Santa is referring to, it was a strange film with Mariane Faithfull travelling around France, I think, on a motorcycle and having fantasy daydreams. One of which was of her riding around a circus ring and being whipped by the Ring Master.
As for Mika, it is a catchy and humorous song, IMHO, and there are many that I would prefer, some of which the Beeb play and some they will never play. I have never heard "Soldier" by Harvey Andrews, played on the BBC, this is a truly wonderful song of mans inhumanity to his fellow man and of mans great courage and sacrifice for his fellow man.

Well I can understand that you being a vegan, however, my son was involved in a serious motorcycle accident, 2 factors saved his life, one he was wearing full leathers, the other the air ambulance. I do not eat meat or poultry, animals are still reared and killed for meat and their skins would go unused if not used for leather footwear and other clothes and I am thankfull that my son was wearing the correct protective clothing, otherwise he would not be here today.
