BBC3 controller, Julian Bellamy, has ordered a documentary looking at the history of one of the English language's most controversial swearwords. The documentary has a working title The History of the C-Word.

An Ofcom survey of words and phrases viewers found offensive, published in November 2005, summarised respondents' reaction to the word as: "Most offensive word to majority, and never really acceptable (though some might occasionally use). Very strong word and particularly disliked by women."

Is BBC 3 going too far with this show? Even ITV2 or Sky 1 would think twice before doing a show on this?

There's no publicity like bad publicity.

I just wonder if this has come about from the Balderdash and Piffle series in 2006 on BBC2, where they tried to find the origin of the C word. To me it is quite a horrendous word, but there are others that I find to be equally offensive.

I wonder if it will feature Chris Moyles about his bad language, and swearing twice in 2006 live on the radio?

These posts caught my eye, logged on to Wiktionary, the dictionary part of Wikipedia and the word in discussion is listed there. 1st known use 1601. Loads of other instances of use. To be honest I got bored reading the entry. Do you think I could claim a researcher fee for that? What a waste of licence fees again.

BBC3 has to show something else apart from Little Britain and 2 Packets of Crisps. These 2 shows seem to be on an endless loop on BBC3.

I can get Three, but Four and Five break up too much, and ITV4 loses sound after about five seconds. Probably due to the fact that I've got a loft-mounted aerial, but then again I'm not missing a great deal.

Show off! Can't even get BBC local radio most times!
Semaphore is quite a radical invention where I live.
Is it me? Or may I suggest a general thread re reception of BBC radio and TV?
