Terry Wogan kicks off his last ( I think? ) Auction of things money can't buy on Monday 16th November
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wa...ed-09-auction/
______________
I just wonder if Terrry will come back next year to host the weeks auction next year - or will Chris takes the key to the auction box? It's like when Chris Tarrant left Capital he was always the main person to front Help a London Child.
Music Marathon is on Friday 20th November before the TV show starts at 7pm. |

The auction for things you can buy if you are richer than most people who listen to Wogan |

Which is fine by me, although of course I'm not one the richer listeners. Are you assuming they would give that amount to charity without "winning" lots in the auction? |

I’m not saying that at all because it is not for me to tell other people what to spend their money on. My point is that the items go for such ridiculous prices 99.99% of his audience would not be able to take part which in turn makes for incredibly dull radio.
Also Terry thumping the table and remarking that £20,000 is not enough is an immediate turn off, it always reminds of the Harry Enfield character “I am considerably richer than you” |

I agree. I find the auctions a dreadful turn off, broadcasting to only a few dozen people. I wouldn't mind so much if it was only mentioned occasionally and there was other content, but it dominates almost every link. For a week.
I can understand the temptation for those in the studio to get caught up in it, but marginalising the bulk of the audience just isn't professional. Terry got it right when he said that Children In Need is about the widow's might, where it's the large number of small donations that makes up the bulk of the money. Even the large cheques presented by industy on the night are generally the summation of thousands of transactions or donations. This auction runs in the opposite direction.
If Chris Evans carries on with the auctions next year then I hope he remembers to do something else as well.
Rob. |

I totally agree, I do turn off. I enjoy TWs show most of the time but this auction, and his constant talking about CIN, is a complete turn off.
It seems to me it is only for a small minority, and the DJs to have a good time when they go on the day out or whatever.
It should be banned and replaced by something for the majority of R2 listeners |

Oh I'm happy to accept there are many people out there who are wealthier than me and I don't have a problem with listening to them spending some of their money on things I don't want, for a good cause. |

Me too Essex Lady!
I know people get annoyed at how much money some seem to have to 'give away', but it struck me when they were talking about the Euro Lottery win the other day that maybe some are lottery winners. There are more than we hear about and it's for a good cause.

I find TW and CIN now very distasteful.
The sooner he leaves daytime radio promoting CIN at every available moment the better.
I'm sure Chris Evans will be much more tactful in promoting CIN. |

If I did win the lottery I'd be tempted to offer Wogan and the rest £1 for every minute that they DON'T mention CIN.
£1440 a day; well worth paying! |

I think he is trying to break the record for how many times he can mention Children in Need in one show
Tedious in the extreme, can't wait for Chris to start. |

Mark, in what way(s) will Chris Evans be more tactful in promoting CIN?
As a related question, have you listened to his show lately?
Just wondering. |
