|

Here's a scoop! With the BBC having issued a no party order for this Christmas,( Credit crunch, financial crisis, not wasting the fee payers dosh and all), good old Captain Wogan has saved the day by retiring 3-months early. His retirement bash ( just before Christmas) is deffo not a Christmas party: it is a party, yes , and it is just before Christmas, oh yes, but it's not a Christmas party. The trees, the crackers and Tim Smith with a compilation CD called Jingle Bells is purely co-incidental a BBC spokesperson was heard to say at the coffee machine. The megga bash is set to be the biggest Christmas errrr.... retirement party the BBC has ever held. |

It's good to know the BBC Christmas bash has been saved for this and many years to come - there's a long line of prospective retirees in the wings! _________________ Ron |

18th December the money is wasted on food, party crackers, flags and real fireworks. Before the fireworks happens Wogan has to absale down Broadcasting house with money from that going to Children In Need.
As he always says " He's not retiring"

Can you get fireworks that aren't real? That reminds me- we had some "indoor fireworks" one year. My expectations of them was just off the scale way too high. Suffice to say the match used to light the things was more exciting than the fireworks. Anyway back to the party - I'm still waiting for the "thump" as the postman delivers my invitation. What do you mean, haven't I got mine yet- has everyone else got theirs? Doh! Left off the list again! Do they know who I am? What do you mean, no. That's the whole point, you have to invite at least one nobody, so everyone else has something to talk about... who's that over there in the pink dress... oh that's erm... erm.... oh you know.... yeah I know, hasn't it been cold lately..... |

Indoor fireworks... I remember those - they made a damp squib look like Krakatoa. My central heating chap has them all now - sends one up the flue and makes the crow that perches on the tv aerial cough and splutter a bit.
As to an invitation to the party, do you really need one these days?

Does Wogan get his appearance fee for attending these BBC Christmas parties? |
