The BBC Trust have started to respond to the recent Listener Survey. Changes are afoot.

Chris has admitted in interviews recently that listeners are older who listen to him. He even said on Top Gear that a 52 year old asked for Van Halen. I think Radio 2 are attracted a more border range of listener. They won't attract a huge surge of youngesters pouring over from commercial stations, but if they continue to play different kinds of music from chart stuff to older music then they will be fine.

The station has seen a different approach over the years.

Just a minute. He says that the age profile has remained more or less static over the last five years. As I recall audience numbers have also remained more or less static over that period.

So why propose to change the balance of the day's programming, which everyone except a small but vocal minority is happy with, by introducing more speech-based material and "imaginative social and cultural campaigns into the peak-time schedule Rolling Eyes

There's quite enough speech with Jeremy Vine, thank you.

I think they mean to reverse some of the steps that were taken to make Radio 2 appeal to younger listeners (remember that?) and that probably started over 5 years ago before Lesley Douglas. Did it? I can't remember. Rolling Eyes

I agree, there's quite enough 'speech' radio with Vine which I can never listen to for more than 5 minutes.

But if speech means Ken Bruce interviewing musicians and other artistes while playing an easy listening set of tracks instead of teeny chart hits then yes let's have it, like Parky's show, on every morning, OK.

I thought Steve Wright was the king of the interviews with his regular interviews with stars/celebs during the Big Show.I can't see Ken Bruce getting into that space.

If change is afoot I would like to see some of the specialist shows aired earlier in the weekday evenings.

I am usually too tired to listen in to them currently and then can't be bothered to listen to them via iplayer.

I really hope that they recommend a more diverse mix of music during the daytime.
I like some modern music just as I like some classic older music, but the producers seem to think that people have such a narrow musical taste.
The main thing they need to do though is to get rid of the "A list" of the playlist which annoys the regular listeners totally (judging from my, and my workmates reactions!!!!!!!)
Saying this I don't want the daytime music to be too obscure just much more varied.

As Gazmando says it's more of a mixture that we really want, not so much whole shows of older stuff. I'd be a fed up as those who detest geriatric radio if that were to happen.

Single genre (don't like that word but it fits) shows are not what I like, but it is possible to mix up the decades and produce good music.
