Driving whilst using a mobile phone is still on the increase. I see so many people still driving around with there handsets to their ear. They think they are in control, but I do think some people are really thick and stupid.

Why can't they use a bluetooth? We know that can also be dangerous whilst talking.

WAKE UP EVERYONE WHO DOES THIS YOU WILL SOONER A LATER KILL SOMEONE.

Quite right Mark.

A lady driver using a mobile phone ran into the back of my missus (she was a passenger)

Two months later the same lady was killed whilst driving on the A5, I never found out all the circumstances other than she was on the wrong side of the road in a head-on, so it's possible she killed herself while using her mobile?

I use a Bluetooth earpiece, not often, but I don't feel unduly distracted receiving calls which I keep to a minimum.

The Bluetooth earpiece I have is designed to allow MAKING a call - but only to the last number you dialled. Press the button twice. I don't think it's illegal to use that function whilst driving. I have done it a couple of times (always ensuring Mrs W was last person called) if I am on a long motorway journey.

Not only are they thick and stupid they are dangerous and selfish.

A friend of ours 15 year old son was killed by a driver who was texting at the wheel. He was innocently walking on the pavement when the car mounted it and killed him Sad
I would quite happily smash with a hammer the mobile of anybody who uses one at the wheel.

This is a subject that really incenses me....the other day I saw a youngish man careering round a corner with a mobile in his hand.

To make it worse there was a young child in the car, too.

Irresponsible doesn't even come close to describing such behaviour !

The North-East is by no means immune from the problem. There was a fatal accident on the A696, not far from Newcastle Airport, caused by someone texting whilst driving.

I don't know what the women who's email Jeremy read out was on about!! She didn't need to use a bluetooth and she still could use her phone which was on the passenger seat? Rolling Eyes You could use the phone if you said call this person, but I would expect she would still need to touch the phone at some stage whilst driving.

I don't think people have any common sense. Dangerous driving for tuning your radio should have been bought into action years ago then none of this would have happened, or at least it would have been a starter.

Yes it's worth remembering that the offense is HOLDING a phone whilst driving, not just 'using' it.

Ah Mark, but it can never be proved that you were tuning your radio just before an accident.

With mobile phones there is a record of calls and texts which is admissable evidence in court.

That is correct John. Also you can be convicted for speeding in a court of law if you have a Sat Nav.
