It has been reported in the press that JR will accept a pay cut of 50% from the BBC and will have to survive on a mere £3million per annum. Rolling Eyes

and I was under the impression that the likes of Ross, Evans, Brand etc. would quickly go over to the commercial sector if the BBC didn't fork out ludicrous salaries..

That's an interesting comment, Santa, because Commercial Radio is constantly banging on about and complaining that “ “It's not Fair” that the BBC can pay such high salaries meaning that the BBC gets the best Talent, leaving them with just the chaff. (Where's Clarkson when you need him)....BUT.....that doesn't stack up with the BBC saying they have to pay high salaries to prevent the Talent going to Commercial Radio. Only one of those two points of view can be true.

Good point Rachel. Maybe this will be the beginning of a more sensible approach to BBC pay deals for so called stars.
Anyway, with regard to radio, personally I've never heard of most of the commercial stations mentioned on this forum so where exactly would the likes of Ross would go to?
I couldn't see him feeling great about presenting on Heart, or Gold or whatever... surely to work for the Beeb remains the ultimate goal for most level headed presenters?

In my experience, a good Commercial Radio Jock ( not a celeb) can earn about £250,000 a year for a regular Radio Show , so when the BBC are paying millions( although they don't all get millions) that seems a little excessive but one must remember that Wossy does TV work too and provides other services, presumably his 3 Million covers that also. It's difficult to make a direct comparison without knowing exactly what the 3 Million covers. On the face of it though it looks like a lot compared to the commercial world.

I think I chose the wrong career path but then again, I'm retired and I still have over 20 years to go before reaching retirement age so it's not all that bad. Smile

The company he owns must have overheads so maybe out of his wage he has to pay for that? Also does he have to pay Andy to work the desk on a Saturday on his Radio show?

yes, that would be interesting.. I'll bet if Wossy has to suffer a pay cut he'll make sure everybody else does too! Laughing
