A blissful two hours, even if our old friend the laughing policeman was off duty today. But good to have a few rarities distributed amongst the old familar items.

It was lovely to hear him again. I think he should be a regular for Xmas Day from now on. I thought thought that he either had a throat infection or his voice has become much older. Or maybe it's me! Laughing

Is there a tracklisting for today's show anywhere?

An enjoyable spot of nostalgia.

Minx, I was surprised when Ed said he's now 68; he's one of those people you don't think of as getting old!

Yes, but I agree that his voice somehow sounded older yesterday.

I really wish Stewpot was back as a regular daytime presenter on Radio 2.
I always thought his was easily the best daytime show with a fantastic mix of old and new music.
I listened to Ed and Paul O'Grady on Christmas day and loved both of the shows

Stewpot should never have been ditched like he was. That was another 'Douglas disaster' move. I used to like his midweek afternoon show from years ago, when he was in the spot now occupied by Steve Wright. Does anyone remember the 'accumulator quiz'? As I remember it worked a bit like Ken Bruce's 'Popmaster' in that those that were good enough worked up to a grand finale at the year's end. Whereas Ken's is a music quiz, Ed's was for general knowledge.

Have to say that much though I enjoyed the Junior Choice show, more from a nostalgia angle than anything, I really don't think Ed would be suited to a weekday show nowadays.

I can't see why you say he wouldn't be suited to a daytime show now Gnasty Gnome.
He wouldn't be doing the junior choice programme every day.
It would be a much more general show and in my opinion Ed has a varied taste in music which is more suited to the tastes of the supposed target audience of Radio 2.
I remember the accumulator quiz, Lord Evan, that was a great quiz.
Do you remember the contestant from Birmingham who kept saying "It's Bostyn (is that how you spell it?) which Ed then used as a little snippet a la "Ello Darlin'"

I think his style would sound dated now. Pleasant enough for a weekend show but not for weekdays. I would agree that Ed's tastes would probably reflect many of ours, but it takes more than that to do a daily show.

I also doubt whether the BBC would consider it even if Ed himself were up for it. Let's face it, Wogan's not that much older and he's just retired from a daily slot, can't see the "powers that be" bringing someone of a similar age back in.

It was great to hear Ed on Christmas morning but as much as I'm a fan of his I did think he was sounding old, maybe he had a cold?

I loved his afternoon slot back in the nineties and found a cassette of what must have been his last show before Christmas as they were doing the equilvalent of Champions League Popmaster. I saved it as the tracks were good.

Don't think I'd like him on everyday, but a return to his old Sunday slot would still suit him fine.

Yes, I remember that contestant. He would have been from somewhere in the the midlands area to come up with an expression like that. OK, maybe not a midweek spot (unless he gets to userp the ginger whinger - who, it should be remembered, does not get on with the 'breakfast show' slot, as previously demonstrated twice )

As long as they re-schedule Paul O'Grady to another slot on the day. (Elaine Page?) I've got used to PO'G now, and like him a lot. He was good over Christmas too.

Just heard Lynsey de Paul's "Won't Somebody Dance with me" on the Noddy Holder/Kiki Dee show this afternoon. Surprised neither of them mentioned Stewpot coming in with the last "May I have the pleasure of this dance".

Shame Ed couldn't have been drafted in for afternoons between Christmas and New Year?

Spooky.. I'm just listening to that same song now as I recorded the show earlier! I liked Lynsey's songs at the time...she had that certain something.

I didn't know Ed was on the record... Rolling Eyes

Recorded both the 60s and 70s shows and hopefully the 80s tomorrow to keep. I think they've been great from what I've heard so far.
I won't bother with the 90s however.
