I posted this on the BBC Radio 2 website. No law about plagarising my own post, is there?
I would welcome your comments on JW & if you heard his comments this morning

I heard big chunks of JWs Breakfast show this morning getting ready to go to work & on my journey there. A wonderful variety of music & good preszentation- just what Radio 2 should be doing.
Towards the end of the show, Johnny Walker said something to the effect that he has enjoyed sitting in for wogan, & would not be interested in doing this any more.
Did anyone else hear this??
I wonder if Johnny has had talks with the powers that be about taking over the disgwaced Wossy's slot of a Saturday Morning?
I think this would be excelent. JW should be presenting a musical show which allows diverse musical style & imagination
I think the sound of the Seventees show is limiting & cramps his style.
Anyone else agree?

If this is true, then whose fault is it? The show's production team or Johnnie himself. The 1970s were, in their own way as eclectic a decade as the 1960s were, in my opinion. Brian Matthew & his team manage to play plenty of fairly obscure stuff on Sounds Of The 60s and that is a more 'mainstream' show than Mark Lamarr's Alternative 60s show was (I wish the powers-that-be would sanction more series of that show) I just wish they would do away with the irritating 'Steve Wright moments', that is not back-announcing certain tracks , like the pre 9:00am news instrumental, as one example. Yes we know what show it is, and that you'll be back after the news. Please remind us what the instrumental was. That would be far more useful to us. Likewise the 'three-in-a-row' segway spot. You used to be told what they were afterwards, who ordered that to change? They should be sacked!

It is true that the 1970's was alot more musically diverse than the Sounds Of The Seventees would indicate.
Great soul, country & reggae was being recorded as well as pop and rock. At the time i was listening mostly to people like Grategul Dead & Capt Beefhart, which are not featured on sounds of the Seventees either

Its about time JW was given his own show with a decent amount of airtime. His Sunday show is good but restricts his genuine talent. Radio 2 should address this before another station snaps him up.

I did wonder if JW was thinking of options outside of the Beeb when he talked about doing something new.
I suspect he would prefer to stay on radio 2, but if he is not offered something more substantial may be tempted to look at other options.
I can understand how someone of his experience would not want to be doing stand ins for other peoples absences for ever

Yes and especially for someone like Chris Evans.

I understand why Johnnie doesn't want to cover for Chris as he took over drivetime from him. I think the Breakfast show has got a new era and wouldn't achieve anything from covering for Chris. It will be interesting who will cover for Chris.

If I ran a radio station I would snap JW up for my breakfast show and I bet he would get more listeners than Evans
