Playing that tape of those unfortunate motorists in the US was a bit hair raising... ( for those that didn't hear it, it was a an emergency phone call from a speeding Toyota with a stuck accelerator. The car entered an intersection at full speed and all the occupants were killed )
Sure enough it turns out the accelerator pedal is electronic rather than the old fashioned cable type. I didn't like this idea from the start.
Hard to understand why the folks in that car weren't able to simply shove it into neutral or turn it off, but gruesome hearing it all the same. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Didn't catch that part of the programme, but I asked my husband earlier this morning whether it was not possible to simply turn the ignition off. Neither of us knew, and it's not something I'm anxious to try. _________________ Minx

Yes, in most cases - maybe all, it is possible to tun the ignition off whilst in "Drive".. the point was made however, the key mustn't be removed as the steering lock will engage.
Selecting "Neutral" would be the better idea as the driver would still have the advantage of power brakes and steering.
I suppose for many people the scenario of a speeding car out of their control would prohibit them from thinking straight.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07
