I nearly wrote, "Don't you mean 'Richard Allinson sits in for Zoe Ball sitting in for Ken Bruce'?"

But I thought better of it.

Interesting to note in recent broadcasts Richard has been dropping hints eg "I like working the mid-morning slot on Radio 2".

Certainly haven't heard him mention anything similar re other slots he covers.

As has been said on R2 board the music on Ken's show does seem a bit drab.Does Alinson have the same producer or will he have his usual one?

I don't know, but Gary Bones who does Ken's show used to to Richard Allinson's Saturday show, (I think he went to Ken's before Richard's show ended though ?). Gary has done Ken's show with a stand in before but maybe he has holiday this week too.

We'll have to wait and see!

Gary Bones was the producer when Richard Allinson's old saturday afternoon show was three hours long. When Lesley Douglas began wielding her axe and chopped an hour off his show, as I remember Ken Bruce & Richard swapped producers. That was certainly when Gary moved over to Ken's show.

I love Ken's show but have been thinking for some time that a new producer was required. Could do with an improvement to the music. Don't change our Ken though, he is a Master.

Totally agree. He used to play some different records occasionally, I can't think of anywhere else but Kens show that I heard Brian Enos 'This' Very Happy

They should give the presenters some more flexiblitity to play what they want, I know in some cases it might not what we want to hear ! but will improve the range of music played.
Otherwise still a great show and long may it continue Very Happy

I think people enjoy the music thats why they play the same ones over and over again. I do think there needs to be a bigger choice of music from music artists instead of the same ones being played over and over again.

Not for me.. not in a long time.
I'm sick of hearing that "New York" track over and over again. Rolling Eyes

Indeed, I don't think heavy rotation does the artist many favours at all. If you begin by not liking the track, then it's being played to death is unlikely to make you like it. And if you do like it, then what good is it if they play it so often that you are totally sick of hearing it by the time it's available to buy?

I'm surprised the Beeb is allowed to heavily promote some songs over others...

I enjoyed Richards shows this week.
I think he played a more varied selection of music than Ken ever seems to.

It's just an illusion (actually, he didn't play that one).

No, I don't have any particular grouse against Richard Allinson, but the music was no more inspired than usual - the same overplayed tracks by Fleetwood Mac, Mika, Al Stewart, Bruce Hornsby & The Range, ELO etc.

At least he (and Ken) isn't saddled with the obligation to play some of the old crooners and rat packers, totally out of context to the feel of the show, the way Chris Evans is.

Well it was OK, listenable I suppose, but nothing special....just distinctly average I guess.

Needs a bit more work if he's ever gonna get a full time daytime slot instead of a graveyard/stand in role.

Didn't make me want to turn off though which is a plus as my radio has been off until 9:30 since January. Handling of Popmaster is still dreadful though.

I don't like his manner with the Popmaster contestants, and he does rank pretty high on the cheese-ometer, but I'd still rather have him than Zoe "foghorn" Ball! How come RA's no.1 fan hasn't been on here writhing in ecstasy? Laughing

MIS-I have been watching quietly from the side-lines.

I have little interest in posting on here these days-all threads seem to be about bashing Chris Evans-totally boring quite honestly.

Allinson rocks Smile

Disagree MM - there are plenty of discussions that do not involve CE.
Some woul say that a constant "bigging up" (to use SW speak Rolling Eyes ) of your hero is " totally boring" Laughing

You mean like this? http://www.pictogame.com/en/play/game/qFAbqyEGmnZs_my-kick-boy I'd call it therapeutic rather than boring, especially after a bad day!!
