Is it only me who finds all this handwringing & bleeting about the alleged tough questioning of a suspected Islamist terrorist named Mohamed rather surreal?
We turn on the BBC to find collective bleeting & handwringing- from BBC guys & politicos alike, that Mohamed was asked some difficult questions & spent time locked up in Guantanamo.
Of course he did! This is the guy who now says that he never intended to kill any "innocent British citizens" but admits that he thinks murder of jews in Britain by fellow travellers would be "completely legitemate".
He also regarded 9/11 as a "heroic act" & has paid tribute to the "martyrs" behind the 7/7 atrocities in Britain.
All of this gets only the slightest ocasional mention & no outrage.
But SHOCK HORROR! "We" (collective handwringing) allowed this man to be questioned about his terrorist intentions!!

From News Reports

Binyam Mohammed is an al Qaeda terrorist who planned, with his would-be partner Jose Padilla the “Dirty Bomber” to carry out mass-murder attacks in U.S. cities as part of a 9/11 “second wave.” More here. Unlike Padilla, who was prosecuted on tangentially related terrorism charges and is now serving a lengthy albeit not lengthy enough sentence, Mohammed was released by the Obama administration, under great pressure from British authorities.Mohammed is a cause celebre in the U.K. — where he is living free and clear — because he made “torture” allegations against the CIA. Our military prosecutors wanted to try him for war crimes, but the Brits did not want a public trial — and neither, I imagine, did parts of our intelligence community — for fear that they'd be branded “torturers” in the press which, naturally, happened anyway. So we released him, and of course he has had the vigorous support of the ususal suspects in pursuing civil suits demanding that details of his “torture” be revealed.

This from the Daily Telegraph about David Camerons' support of Binyamin Mohamed & use of this Islamist terrorist as a stick to attack Labour in.
Who is the next Tory hero? Osama Bin Laden?

The Conservatives are totally losing the plot if they adopt Binyam Mohamed as a cause celebre

Oh dear, the bloggers at Conservative Home think I am a disgrace for taking issue with the way our judiciary invariably finds in favour of Islamist militants rather than protecting the right of British citizens not to be blown up as they go about their daily business.

If I understand correctly Alex Deane’s high-minded rant about the rights of innocent people receiving a fair trial (which, just to put the record straight, I fully support), he is prepared to accept at face value former Guantanamo detainee Binyam Mohamed’s claim that he was brutally tortured during his interrogation with the full complicity of British security officials. David Davies, the former shadow Home Secretary, made a similar argument on the Today programme this morning, preferring to believe the word of Mr Mohamed rather than our own intelligence establishment.

I am well aware that MI6 and MI5 are highly practised in the dark arts of looking after their own interests, but I would sincerely urge mssrs Deane and Davies to take a close look at Mr Mohamed’s activities prior to his arrest in Pakistan in 2002, when he was apprehended trying to board a flight on a false passport, before they adopt him as their cause celebre.

Do we really believe Mr Mohamed’s claim that he travelled to Afghanistan in 2001 – the world’s leading exporter of heroin – to kick his drug habit? And why did he boast to his FBI interrogators that he had attended a number of al-Qaeda training camps while in Afghanistan? Is Osama bin Laden now running drug rehabilitation programmes?

Nothing Mr Mohamed has said since the British government did him the enormous service of securing his release from Guantanamo adds up, which is why I am deeply concerned that Conservative voices are being raised in defence of his human rights. If this is the type of cause that modern Conservatives wish to defend, you really have to question whether the party is fit to govern this country.
