I don't understand this veneration of Dusty Springfield all of a sudden.
She was a sixtees pop singer who had a few hits.
The most played thing by her these days is "Son Of a Preacher Man". Dusty's version is nowhere near the best.
Listen to Bobbie Gentry sing this & you know you are listening to something real.
A beautiful, sexy voice, & this was not Gentry at her best.
Bobbie Gentry not only had a gorgeous, naturally sexy voice, but was a superb songwriter, too. Check out her "Dixie Sweetie" album. One of the greats.
If we must have a sixtees diva revived, how about a real talent like Bobbie Gentry with one of the greatest voices??

Dusty was one of the finest singers ever. I'm not doubting Ms Gentry's abilities, but I'd venture that Dusty's body of work is somewhat more impressive - a fantastic talent.

Without hearing the evidence, I'd go for Dusty too although they're both great!
For me, Dusty is absolutely one of those artistes you wish you'd have taken more notice of during her lifetime.. a truly beautiful voice.

I'm glad you posted that link Ron.. it lead me on to an old favourite of mine "Walking My Cat Named Dog" by Norma Tanega. Don't hear this played often but to see a video too was very nice.
Strangely, she's "playing" a solid guitar rather than an acoustic..looks to be a Gibson SG Junior.... and not plugged in Laughing
