As I'm trying to "tidy up" all my label-less DVDs and CDs, I came across one of my few RAM DVDs.. bunged it in the player and I was chuffed to see the first episode ( do we still call them episodes?) of "Ashes to Ashes"
I watched and enjoyed it all over again and then got quite depressed when I realised there will probably be no more "Life on Mars" programmes - which if I'm honest, was the better of the two series imo..
But it's not only that Life on Mars isn't on the telly.. or, Ashes to Ashes.. there's no Triffids.. Survivors has finished too and the other one where they had photos of a future happening.. y'know, the one with that Eastenders girl in it.. and of course the superb Hustle!
Luckily.. there will be another series of Ashes to Ashes coming up very soon which I think is the last one but I really hope they'll do another variation and keep Gene Hunt!! he's a fabulous character! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

New series starts on good Friday, really looking forward to seeing it and finding out Gene's true identity.
I have an idea about that myself but I'm probably wrong |

Back tonight Toggy as you said! really looking forward to it and I'm going to record the whole series as I'm away for 3 weeks soon.
I don't have any idea who Gene really is.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Now I'm even more convinced about my Gene idea. That business with Sam though is very confusing and it looks like from next weeks trailer something happens to Shaz. |

I hope Keeley Hawes isn't going to keep wearing those awful men's jackets and psychedelic tops. If those were around, plus that awful hairstyle, I must have been somewhere else in the eighties. _________________ Minx

That's one of the gripes I had about Life on Mars - not everybody wore Tank Tops like Noel Edmonds in the 70s. In fact, in some circles it was definitely uncool to be seen in such a thing! The music wasn't exactly well researched, either (a bit like present-day Radio 2, come to think of it!). |

There's a character in the series who plays the visiting cop from another area, who's out to get Gene Hunt. I've been racking my brains to think who it is that he reminds me of, and today I got it.
A young Chris Evans! _________________ Minx

I watched the final episode last night and was none the wiser for all that. Then I read the Daily Mail article telling me what had really happened and all was made clear. _________________ Minx

Very much my loss, I'm sure, but I'm afraid I never got into Ashes to Ashes.

Well I must say I enjoyed the last ever episode very much, not being a fan of twee contrived all lived happily ever after endings this was as near to perfect as possible.
I had sussed out a while ago they were all dead but I wasn't expecting them to find out how they met their end And I thought adding Nelson from the railway arms as the gatekeeper of heaven (I presume) was a good touch.
Always suspected Keats was the devil and he was trying to claim the souls of Ray, Shaz, Chris and Alex.
Quite amused to see another copper from the future land into Gene's world at the end.
Good series with great cast, well done to the beeb for this. |

I enjoyed the series but was too tired to fully understand and follow the final episode. I will have to watch it again sometime, its bound to be repeated. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |
