I was unfortunate enough to overhear a slug of the Chris Evans "interactive fun for all the family" Breakfast Show this morning and he was again banging on about some silly sporting challenge or other.
I couldn't give a hoot, but what interested me was why Evans simply must have human props around him in order to be able to put a show together. Can't he do a show on his own without all the silly "interactive" rubbish or whooping and over-enthusiastic studio hangers-on like Saunders?
In many respects, the Evans and Wright shows are much the same in that they simply can't do without their sycophants.
End of grumpy-old-men post! |

I've often wondered why they have to have others there with them as well! Maybe they just can't bear to be alone? My next door neighbour is the same, she has to have people there, it's rare there aren't at least 2 extra cars at her house! I like to have some space to breath!

I just don't see the point of most 'hangers on' such as Andy on the Ross show, Saunders on CE, Boggy & Dedicote on TW etc they seem to get involved far too much in the shows when it's not them I'm listening for. They just become annoying. |

It doesn't bother me particularly, in fact I quite like it.. certainly in the case of Steve's show. The Old woman makes me laugh and the other's contributions make for a more interesting afternoon... even if the Earth Mother makes me cringe sometimes.
Of course Radcliffe & Maconie work well as did Kenny & Cash.
Perhaps for me it's a case of if you don't particularly like one, the other will make up for it.. perhaps Richard Allinson could team up with Daffy Duck? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yesterday's show was appalling.
A whole show dedicated to Chris's birthday. How old is he for heaven's sake? Six?
Just when you think he is calming down you realise that the show is still all about him.
I still fail to understand why every show has to be entitled something or other. Could they not have brought a different format to Breakfast instead of migrating the Drivetime one?
I've been unfortunate to be up very early for the last two weeks due to work commitments and have been listening to Sarah on my drive to work. I never thought I'd admit it but I actually have enjoyed her random mutterings and easy on the ear style of presentation, especially when it's compared to the mayhem that folllows. |

Andy has a different role from the rest of them. He actually drives the desk in the studio and does all the ops work, whereas Ross sits on the other side and merely has to talk.
I don't listen to CE (unless it's forced upon me) so I'm unsure as to Saunders' role is, but I'm sure it's just to prop Evans up. He seems incapable of running a show solo. |

Interestingly, this type of broadcasting is known as the Zoo format!
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_zoo:
Quote: | The name is derived from the "wackiness and zaniness" of the activities, bits, and overall personality of the show and its hosts. The morning zoo concept and name is most often deployed on contemporary hit radio (CHR-Top 40) radio stations. |

Well, it was in the 1980s when every radio station had its "Breakfast Crew". It seems that Messrs Evans and Wright aren't aware of the changing trends in broadcasting. |

And usually sounds awful. Or as Ken Bruce said in his autobiography, the listener can seem like an eavesdropper to a private conversation. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

That's so true LEE! I used to feel they were talking to me, no more though.

Johnny Saunders seems to think he's a major "star" these days. Is his role model Lynn Bowles who also thinks she's more important than she really is.
I don't like the zoo format of delivery -I think CE would be much better delivering his show solo.

Trouble is he's never once demonstrated an ability to do so. He's always had human props around him. |
