Heard this was coming out in Jan and Terry played it this morning.

It's called "latitude 88 North" annd it's taken from the 30th anniversary cd re-issue of "Out of the Blue".

There's 3 new tracks on it (one is a new take on Wild West Hero)

It's very distinctive of later Jeff Lynne, great song - love it but I'm not sure how it will fit with the other tracks on the album as jeff's production style has changed dramatically in 30 years - look at his take on the Beatles, Travelling Willburys, his solo album, zoom.

However, thanks, Jeff nice one- but where's a new album Very Happy

As a layman, I don't think Jeff Lynne's production style has changed that much really. Whether it's ELO, the Wilburys, or The Beatles, I always know it's a Jeff Lynne production. And, to be honest, not in a good way.

The new single was written in 1977 but was unfinished - but all you need to do is listen to an 'Out of the Blue' track, then 'Latitue 88 North' to tell the growth in production style.

Ian,

take it you're not an ELO fan, then - if you're interested in reviewing your stance, I couldn't suggest better albums to start with than 'Discovery' and 'A new world Record'.

Try it, I bet you like it.

Not a "fan" as such, but I don't mind the records. Mr Blue Sky is fantastic.

I just think Lynne's production is too "shiny" and doesn't impress me much.

Hello Andy, good to see you back on the forum again.... Smile

Heard "Latitude 88 North" on Wogan via 'Listen Again' this afternoon - as you say, easy to tell it's got Jeff Lynne's stamp all over it. Not bad at all, will have to hear it again.

Wasn't a huge fan of ELO during their heyday in '77, I have to say (wasn't even buying music back then - started buying albums when Blondie hit the charts!), although I'm probably now appreciating just how good "Mr Blue Sky", "Evil Woman" and "Turn to Stone" were back in the day, so will definitely add the re-mastered "Out of the Blue" to my Amazon wishlist.

Cheers, Cherskiy - been decorating spare room so PC been out of action for a bit. Nice to know I was missed though, feel all special now!!

I love ELO / Jeff Lynne - think I've stated elswhere two of my favourite songs are 'Shangri La' and ' Rockaria'.

The new song is great, heard it again today - I don't think Jeff is singing the whole song like he did on Zoom.
