That's one show less I'll be watching at 7.00pm on BBC1 then.

BTW Mark, do you duplicate all your R2MB posts over here?

Confused

I'm not a big fan of the show, Chiles or least of all, Evans but as MiS said, why?
I read someplace that Adrian Chiles was pretty angry that the Beeb felt the need to offer somebody else the prime slot - let alone work with his partner..
I agree, what the heck is it about Chris Evans that they feel they have to mess about with an already successful show? They must surely realise that Evans' style and presentation does not appeal to the majority of people! Rolling Eyes

I think it hints at the fact that senior BBC management just don't have a clue, and they're arrogant enough to believe that they do indeed know what suits us all best.

Personally, I think Evans is being groomed for a primetime Saturday evening TV show. But that's just my theory.

I was right when it was announced that he was coming over to R2 to do the Drivetime show. I said on the BBC R2MB that I wouldn't be surprised if he was being lined up for Breakfast when Tel eventually retired...........

No, I don't understand the fascination either... Sad

This story has been doing the rounds for quite a while now hasn't it? I can only ask why? What has Evans got that Adrian Chiles hasn't? Except an annoying shouty voice. How many of his previous TV shows have flopped? So what's the Friday edition going to be re-named? Don't Forget Your Toothbrush or perhaps Thank God It's Friday?

He may have messed up over the years, but he does know how to attract the listeners and viewers. Blimey this country judges people too quick. This is why we are in this mess.

He's an expert at getting rid of loyal viewers and listeners, too. And I'm one of them!

Judging people (do you mean Evans?) too quickly? We've had Evans imposed on us from all angles for two decades now. That's hardly "quick"!

The reason we're in a mess is because of those in a position of responsibility so arrogantly assuming that they always know what's best for us. That includes TV and Radio channel managers at the BBC as well as our most senior politicians.

So..... if he does indeed commence co-presenting The One Show on Fridays I'll find something else to do - just like I do when he's being irritating on the radio at breakfast times.

Oh I do like that one Angela!

Just noticed that neither Chiles or Bleakley are on the One Show tonight although RT lists them as presenters. Don't watch it very often and didn't see it last night, so don't know if they were on or not. Anyone know?

Have they gone on strike because of Evans? If only he could get the show full time there couldn't be a worse presenter than him for breakfast surely?? (please no!).

It was two BBC Breakfast presenters (Chris Hollins and Louise Minchin). Don't know why they were both depping though.

I actually like The One Show and I like the presenters and format. It really annoys me that stupid BBC controllers are now imposing Evans on me - yet again!!!!! What is their infatuation with that most annoying and irritating of presenters?

That guy is following me around and it seriously bugs me - first at Radio One, then Virgin, then Radio 2 Drivetime, then Radio 2 Breakfast and now the One Show on Fridays. Everything he touches gets tarnished and ruined!

I've sort of got out of the habit of the One Show of late. Since Drivetime is now not ear hurting territory and I'm still usually in the kitchen I tend to stick with radio after 7 once again.

I used to like it, but hasn't it become a bit political lately (even before the GE was announced)?

It will all end in tears where Evans is concerned, I'm certain.

Yes, I have the same feeling, Helen. You get the feeling that the production team isn't going to like it, either. It seems like they've been told "He's coming to the show, like it or lump it".

I heard from a friend who's a network systems engineer that the bad feeling around Radio 2 was quite strong among production people when Evans took over the R2 Breakfast show and I wonder how much this latest decision has been imposed upon Adrian Chiles and the One Show team. I also wonder how this will affect Christine Bleakley's relationship with her Friday co-host, given his tendancy to demand as much of the camera's attention as he can. The chemistry between Bleakley and Chiles is really good, largely because of his laconic and self-depracating style. Evans has no such qualities and is nothing but "me, me, me".

It's going to end in tears, for sure.

Well, Friday's off for me. Crying or Very sad

I think it will be interesting to watch the interaction between Christine Bleakley and Evans. Recalling how Sally Traffic and Foxy had to work hard to retain their individualism against Evans' patronising and overbearing style, (as opposed to Johnny Saunders' rolling over/stroke my belly demeanour) it should prove entertaining to actually observe the same battle taking place before the camera. But then again.... I don't think even that prospect would persuade me to tune in. Evil or Very Mad

Normally, my alarm-clock radio comes on at 6.30am weekdays (Mrs B. gets up at 6.45) and I then reach over and switch it off right after Moira's stumbling news bulletin but before the excrutiating content that follows. This morning I slept through Moira's news and the next thing I became aware of was the sound of somebody shouting.

I thought there were people making a noise outside the window, only to realise that it was Evans shouting in the middle of The Kinks' "Lola". I love that number, but I still had to switch off.

Two words were uttered. The second was "off".

As I understand it, Adrian Chiles was unhappy with his contract, hence why Evans has been brought in on a Friday.

I don't think we should be judging the One Show simply because Evans is on the show - we should at least give him a chance. The One Show has a well established and popular format and the Chris will probably be asked to try to stick to that format as much as possible.

Just because his radio show is noisy/shouty doesn't mean that his appearances on the One Show will be. Chris' appearance on Saturday Kitchen a few months back didn't result in him shouting his way through the programme. I believe he is capable of adjusting his tone according to the format of the programme.

No thanks. The guy annoys the hell out of me so I'll avoid it.

He can't interview people without wanting to impose his own "me, me, me" on everything, so although the format may still be there (of course) the problem is that he will be too.

We'll see. Or at least other people will see. If you see what I mean. I won't be seeing at all.

It's all so bloomin' pointless - what do they think Evans will add to what is already a successful format? I'll wager more people will turn off because he's on it than will be gathered in. Daft.

Isn't the show just a opportunity to showcase the BBC 'talent' and lets them promote their own shows, interesting this week they have the bloke that won the dancing show as a presenter, not much good in my view , but its all about PR.

The One Show is going to be running from 7-8pm on a Friday. What I have read it's going to be a slightly different to the Mon-Thurs show. It's a build upto the weekend show. Adrian Chiles is supposed to be involved with the World Cup coverage this june, and other projects and probarly couldn't really committ to Fridays. This isn't the only show which have different presenters on a Friday This Morning do it. It doesn't mean Adrian is leaving or unhappy. The show is flexiable and able to incorporate other presenters. Chris is an entertainer and will be good for this type of show.

Correct. It's going to be more "entertainment" orientated - which means that the well-honed mix we've had all week will now be changed to the point where the lighter stuff will not feature so heavily Mon-Thurs and will be saved for the Chris Evans Show on Friday. Whooopie. Can't wait. Confused

I don't think that's a very good idea. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But it will be fixed because, dammit, they're going to get Evans in there by hook or by crook and who cares what anybody else thinks?

It's obvious that Evans is being groomed to be Ross's general "Mr. BBC" replacement and they're damn well going to get their money's worth out of him. The fools.

If certain press reports are anything to go by (Guardian, Independent) Adrian Chiles wasn't consulted about this until the deal with Evans was done, and insiders say that he was furious when he found out. His contract is up for renewal soon and he threatened to walk from it, but was placated by BBC management. I can't say I blame him at all.

No he isn't - he's the worst possible addition to the presentation team for this show. Like I said above - if it ain't broke don't fix it. They will never learn!

I happened to hear his breakfast show the day Steve Hackett guested (via I-player), and if the guitarist hadn't been on, I'd have listened to Shaun Keaveney as usual on 6 Music.

Colin B, your thoughts on Evans put me in mind of the Marillion song 'The King Of Sunset Town', as the man in the song ruined places that were doing well before he came! Mark Thompson should have it on his ringtone.

No I'm not, I'm countering your assertion that Evans "will be good for this type of show". I absolutely disagree with that assertion - hence my comment that I think he's the exact opposite of what the show needs. I don't think it's broke and therefore it don't need fixing! So why are they messing with a flexible format?

To get Evans back into a higher profile on BBC TV irrespective of the damage it does, that's why............

How can you say that it's one of aunties flag ship shows. The ratings are above 6 Millions. I think it's as big as Wogan chat show and Nationwide.

Agree with you Mark O.

The Show is fine - it has good presenters, has good guests and covers all sorts of interesting topical subject matter.

I think Chris Evans will fit into the format of the show on a Friday just fine.

So just how many more people are going to have to quit because of b****y Chris Evans?

Johnnie Walker told to give up Drivetime

Sarah Kennedy moved

Alex Lester moved

Janice Long lost an hour of her show.

Richard Allinson moved on Saturdays to make space for Evans, which lead to him losing Saturdays althogether in the long run.

Just what has this hideous little man got to just walk over people like he does?

H

PS Sorry If I've missed anyone out of the list, feel free to add to it.
