Thank you so much to Charlie Brooker, Chris Addison and Rufus Hound (Lauren Laverne on refreshments, it seemed) for pointing out how ridiculous the programme Over The Rainbow is! It is just an excuse for Lord Webber to exploit and discard teenage girls.

Brooker was quite rightly incensed over THAT ident coming on during Doctor Who!

I don't watch any of these free, peak-time promotions for Lloyd-Webber's enterprises but they're right to criticise them, it would appear.

As for that ident, you can't really blame the show's producers; this problem of pulluting shows with promotional material for the shows that are "Coming up" is endemic throughout the broadcast TV industry now.

The other night, as BBC4 showed Julien Temple's excellent "rockumentary" about Doctor Feelgood (Oil City Confidential). The end of the 90 minute film features a credit roll which is silent - in total contrast to the music and mayhem that was a product of the band's manic career.

And what did the BBC4 continuity announcer do as the credits rolled?

Yep. You got it in one!

Yes, I saw Oil City Confidential and it got on my threepenny bits at how the announcer butted in!

I didn't know much about Dr. Feelgood previously apart from what I'd read in Mark Radcliffe's book 'Thank you For The Days', but I found the film interesting.

I identified a lot with Wilko in regard to his depression.

I saw the Feelgoods several times in the 70s when I was a student and they were different to absolutely everything that was around at the time. They were totally manic, mad, nuts, barmy and..... brilliant! Any band with Wilko and Brilleaux in was bound to end in tears, as indeed it did! Good while it lasted, though, and I'm very pleased to see the band's contribution to what came after being given the recognition it deserves by Julien Temple. It put Canvey Island on the musical map, too. For a while, at least. Smile

It's a shame that - with the exception of Johnnie Walker's interview with Wilko Johnson a couple of months back - hardly any mention of the film was made on Radio 2 though.

Hardly surprising, given the station's obsession with banality these days!

I saw Wilko Johnson when he was part of The Mad, Bad, & Dangerous tour circa 2005 and boy, was he dripping with sweat when he had finished his sets! Others who were part of the tour were The Hamsters & John Otway (without Wild Willy Barrett) A very enjoyable festival of Blues-Rock, which I found out about via Johnnie Walker's then Drivetime show. I don't remember who he had been interviewing at the time when the tour was mentioned.

He used to move all around the stage (even big ones) when with the Feelgoods. I don't know how he sustained the energy.

The Hamsters are a great band, and John Otway is the biggest star to some out of Aylesbury, Bucks!!! He still plays pubs etc locally. Great character....

I loved Charlie Brooker's description of 'The Biggest Loser' series as 'Gok Wan-amo Bay' this week!

Hannah Montana got the hammering it damn well deserved on this week's episode! It's a shame my elder sister and niece were on holiday this week, otherwise they would have seen Charlie Brooker rubbishing Miley Cyrus and co.!

Loved Chris Addison's suggestion of a British equivalent - Hester Leicester!

Yo Gabba Gabba's songs came in for some stick, though Brooker didn't mention the green monobrowed character's resemblance to Liam Gallagher.

I'm sorry that the last episode in the series has been postponed due to the Cumbria shootings.

I did, however, catch the Crime episode on the 4OD website - it wasn't THAT offensive, unless you happened to be ginger or related to David Caruso, who got a lot of stick relating to his role in the CSI franchise.
