Didn't Richard suggest during his last week on breakfast that he would be back in May? Mind you, Chris might be away for a fortnight?

I think he did Nick, although I don't know that he specifically mentioned the Breakfast show.

He's involved with Eurovision and they are playing the tracks at breakfast just like Wogan did. So I'am guessing this is why he's covering the show?

Obviously Auntie Beeb can't bear the thought that many of us preferred Richard Allison to the noisy one. He did an excellent job last time, must have been too good for them to give the show to him again. Laughing

Unless Richard is sitting in for Chris at the end of May as there are two bank holidays?

I seriously think Radio 2 have got a problem if they need Graham Norton to cover breakfast for two weeks.

If Graham Norton maintains the standard which he achieved in the two weeks he depped for Wrighty, it might be Chris Evans who has the problem not the Beeb. Might just prove to people that there is an available alternative to shouty egotists.

To be honest, I thought Norton did quite well the last time he depped for SW. He's not "shouty", he's amiable, he has a sense of humour - and he comes across as having a genuine interest in his guests and their responses. I haven't been able to apply any of those observations to Wright for years and years.

Maybe Norton will be good at breakfast. After all, he can't be any worse than the current "host". I'll give him the benefit of the doubt - which is something I'll never do for Evans.

I thought the same, in that he did okay (that means alright Mark).

The only thing that concerned me was what I heard on Wogan this morning. He said they are going to do a sort of 'agony aunt' spot on Breakfast and wanted people to email in with their problems. You can just imagine it ............Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I used to enjoy Graham in his old Channel 4 days and from what I heard of him depping for Steve, I expect he will okay on breakfast. However, I still don't understand why they don't use one of the Radio 2's roster of broadcasting talent. Maconie, Radcliffe, Harris, Walker.... why put these guys out in the shadows.

Saying that, the one person I really hope they get to dep for Radio 2 breakfast some day is Richard Bacon.

Was Norton on Wogan's show yesterday? Did he say anything about the unfortunate Doctor Who trailer on Saturday?

Not sure Ian.

I was away Saturday so didn't see that (not that I watch much TV at all on Saturdays) either.

They did refer to a shiny suit ??

Well, it makes a change to be listening to Radio 2 at breakfast time, though not sure about the show so far. Does seem a bit on the noisy side. Nice that Deadly has managed to get a look in again, reading out the "Grill Graham" agony letters.

Did wonder whether the second letter wasn't a bit of a spoof though. From someone in Pinner who wrote in to say that a new recruit had joined the office this year who was very noisy and exuberant, had a really loud voice, used outdated jargon etc and was getting on everyone's nerves. Cool

Having read the 6 music message boards, I'm certain it's from a disgruntled 6 music listener. When perusing the 6 music 'General' board (I don't remember what they called it but it was their equivalent to the old R2 'Shows & Music' board for those of our number who remember that) In the last year or so before the powers-that-be pulled the plug on it (since replaced by 'Inside 6 music') The thread that was almost always on the top was one about one George Lamb, whose ousting of Gideon Coe from the mid-morning slot caused the same outcry as Evans did at radio 2. As I recall from messages in that thread, Lamb Jr had a 'Shabba' sound effect (culled from the track 'Mr Loverman' by Shabba Ranks) I've never heard his show, Like Evans & Carr, the trailers (which were also played on R2) were enough to dissuade me from listening to the whole thing!

It’s been a disaster of biblical proportions so far, but on the upside there’s massive scale for improvement.

OMG! It was like waking up in the wrong world. Hello! Hello! Anyone there? This is Planet Earth isn’t it?

I've now given up on R2 at Breakfast time these days, so I don't really care who's presenting.

Well I only switched on halfway through the Rula Lenska interview and thought it was okay. I was reading the paper (as I used to do with Wogan) but it didn't make me dash for the off switch.

It was nice to have the radio on instead of listening to KACL Bismarck N Dakota which is 7 hours behind! Music fine but I like a bit of chat as well.

I'll let you off this once. Wink

I found it by chance when I got my internet radio back from being upgraded (it needed a 'dongle' put in it, something to do the 'N' range of routers which blocked all wi fi reception. You'll probably understand what I mean!). The selection of stations has changed from going by continent to country only so checked out the US 'K' stations.

They play 10 in a row fairly frequently. 60s/70s and a few different versions of songs from the ones we hear this side of the pond. Had it on for 3 hours Saturday afternoon while I was working and it was quite good.

It’s just not working! Pull the plug now and get someone else in pronto or you’ll have the biggest migration of listeners since Moses left for the Promised Land.

Grill Graham? Roast him; boil him; fry him, whatever you like, but don’t let him on the Radio again! It’s worse than when Pete Mitchell sat-in for Steve Wright. He’s making Ken Bruce sound vivacious and lively!

Again I didn't listen to the start, but I can leave the radio on so that is a step forward in my book.

I normally reach for the "off" button quicker than you can say boo to a goose at 7.03am each weekday, but today I left it on and it did stay on until about 8.30am when other things took me out of the house.

I thought Norton was OK, actually; like Helen, I wasn't moved to switch off after SK so that's one thing in Norton's favour.

After Evans, I can tolerate most stuff.... and this is tolerable. Rolling Eyes He did sound mortified when he fell short of the 8 o'clock news bulletin though.

I'm sorry I can't stand his voice at any time of the day or night. Richard Allinson must have been too good last time he covered to be 'risked' again!

Wasn't too fussed with the interview today, thought it dragged, and Graham seemed a bit nervous for some reason. Too many awkward pauses, think he forgot he was on radion not telly and was expecting the body language to fill the gaps.

Problem with Graham I found he's not ready for the next link and those texts or emails. Now where is that one he keeps stalling on before he reads it out. I hate his laugh too. It sounds so false , like he's not interested in the interview.

He sounded much better this morning( perhaps he was feeling unwell yesterday and the day before), he even made me laugh at one point, and as my mother used to say, a woman appreciates a man who can make her laugh, although I would probably add to that, 'more than once'.

Complete opposite today; the Julie Andrews interview was good I thought, and GN sounded more confident.

As Rachel says, perhaps a bad hair day yesterday?

Warts and all, I'd far sooner listen to Graham Norton 5 mornings a week than Mr. Evans. It's much easier on the ear.

It doesn't really bother me; I find his voice quite pleasant to listen to, it's such a blissful change from being talked AT.

Graham Norton has never tried to conceal the fact that he's a poof, and at least we're spared the tedious updates on the childrens' doings that blight the offerings of Mr. Evans and Ms. Ball.

Of that we are well aware - unfortunately.

It's been quite nice listening to R2 Breakfast this week, and I look forward to listening next week too. It took Graham a couple of days to settle in but he's now relaxed and enjoying himself.

I thought his chat with Wendy wotsit (aka Cilla from Corrie) hit just the right mark this morning - entertaining, engaging and funny.

Well done Graham.

It's such a pity that the other bloke will be back in the chair (or does he stand up whilst talking loudly through the whole show, one wonders?) a week on Monday.

I'm afraid that one has shot right over my head, Mark.

For the record, I think Evans has the most irritating voice on Radio 2. What I like about Norton is that actually has a sense of humour.
