What a load of pretentious drivel this was. Jane Campion has never followed up 'the Piano' very well and this was so stilted, so dull, so slow that I longed for ARFM's 'Real Men Of Genius' jingle to break in, or a cartoon Stuart Maconie to come walking on during the climatic coughing scene to let us know 'Radcliffe & Maconie' were on that night!

It reportedly told the story of John Keats's love for Fanny Brawne, but all I saw was a procession of silly hats. I don't like period drama much and I DON'T like it with artsy pretention.

After doing an English lit degree I fell in love with Keats - the poems I mean - but of course the tragic story of his life only adds to the romance of it all.

I really wanted to see this film, but missed it at the cinema. It's been available on a film club I subscribe to, but I've never got around to watching it. I'm not going to bother now.

I had a feeling it would be naff - for starters it's all speculation anyway - they've only got the letters to go on and make the rest up, especially the characterisation of Fanny Brawne.
