As no one likes us, perhaps the BBC should save licence payers money and drop this. The money could be put towards funding 6Music.

An added problem is that the BBC is one of the core funders who has to stump up the lion's share of the budget - massively disproportionate to what we get out of it. Personally I think we should do what Italy did a few years back and simply back out gracefully.

I didn't realise that Colin. The money from that and from chopping some of the so-called Radio 2 celeb presenters could be better spent on funding a Radio2 Xtra or keeping 6Music.

I'm sorry we came last, as I quite liked both singer and song.

At the very least, I think we should withdraw for one year in the first instance and have a re-think about whether we wish to continue to enter in the future and, if so, what changes we need to make.

Stop letting the public decide the songs and singers we send. The public are idiots!

As for dropping out for a year, I'm not sure that would save much money as the BBC would still have to find something else to fill those 12+ hours of television and it wouldn't be much cheaper.

Personally I'd like to see those resources directed at the huge wealth of new talent that exists here in the UK but which doesn't get much national exposure. I get round to see lots of young performers and I think there's as much good and original musical talent out there now as there ever has been. I saw literally hundreds of bands in the 70s and 80s and there's plenty around today which would be their equals.

The Eurovision Song Contest seems such a waste of resources and airtime in the way that it encourages such inane and unadulterated pap.

It also meant The Critical List was off that Saturday because of the radio broadcast!

The 'Father Ted' episode with 'My Lovely Horse' in has convinced me that the UK submit a rubbish song every year to get out of hosting it.

Oh yes it would... to our ears and various other senses!!

It had a purpose in the 60's, but is now an anachronism. Put ot out of it's misery!
