If you ever had any doubt that the Beeb can be childishly spiteful, the news that they have withdrawn their offer to Christine Bleakley for another One Show contract should convince you otherwise. They've now decided that her indecision as to whether she should accept their offer or a better one from ITV, is not in the interests of the show. Chiles will be laughing his socks off!

Maybe ITV will lower their offer now..
It's a shame it's all gone wrong for the One Show, although I only watch parts of it... so I'm not in a position to judge.
Are Chiles and Bleakley still "an item"?

No, I understand she's currently involved with one of our England "stars".

And to think all this disruption has been caused by this man: http://www.pictogame.com/en/play/game/qFAbqyEGmnZs_my-kick-boy
I'd be most interested to learn what makes the BBC think that the sun shines out of his arse!

The solution would be to put Evans on every night and we could then hopefully enjoy the breakfast show once more..........

Why does Evans leave such a trail of destruction in his wake? I don't understand why a bloke who's such a complete dork can have such a pull with channel executives and controllers.

In some respects, I don't really care what happens to The One Show now because I don't watch it any more. It's already ruined. The on-screen chemistry between Chiles and Bleakley is what it made it work - Chiles' self-depracating humour and Bleakley's girlish giggles (not to mention fab legs!) were the perfect mix - and now that Evans has managed to complete destroy this they can really do what they like.

In some respects it would be a good thing if Evans were given the gig; that way we might have a decent R2 breakfast show again and we can can all tune to something else on BBC1 at 7.00pm.

I feel sorry for the members of The One Show's production team because it's they who have to make the show work regardless of the mind-numbingly stupid decisions that are taken further up the chain.

Colin I agree. It's unbelievable what mayhem this guy can cause, but take my word it will all end in tears when the bubble bursts.

I agree, Evans has made Moira Stuart a subject of ridicule, and now has destroyed the One Show.

I'm tempted to start a new thread at the R2 boards.... Twisted Evil

Looks like she's told the BBC to get stuffed (and quite rightly so):

What I find amazing is that this has been on the news(even on Radio 4 Rolling Eyes ). Extraordinary.

It looks like she actually leaves in September: http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2010/06/21/christine-bleakley-signs-4million-itv-deal-115875-22347732/

I was really surprised and pleased to see them doing this. Not because I don't rate Ms Bleakley (I think she's great on the One Show) but because I'm fed up seeing the BBC bidding silly money to retain the services of perfectly average talent. By pulling the plug on this one, they send a good message to the business as a whole, that the BBC won't necessarily be used as a bargaining tool in bidding wars.

Me too - they worked well together. BBC management have been unbelievably stupid in tinkering with such a successful format. I don't watch it any more.

"If it ain't broke....." etc. but they obviously know best.

How many times have they tinkered and the end result has been a disaster! I didn't watch that much but like Becky thought it was a good pairing.

I think she's kicked the BBC in the teeth. I saw the last The One Show and she was getting into the car with Chris Evans in it saying " Yes I will be staying and back in September" Disgraceful way she's treated her former employees.

Really? She asked for a lot of money, went public to say ITV were after her (essentially blackmailing the BBC into paying what she wanted) and, quite rightly, the BBC pulled out of negotiations.

Yes, it's a mess of the BBC's own making but fair do's for not giving into her demands.

On the contrary, I think her former employees have treated her, and others, disgracefully. I see, also, that the BBC will soon be requiring its senior managers to undergo psychometric testing to assess whether they're good enough to be managers. And not before time.

The manner in which Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have been treated by numbskull managers at the BBC is a disgrace in itself - and I don't blame them one bit for decide to up sticks to a competitor after the BBC decided to parachute that pillock Evans in on Fridays without consulting the two main presenters first.

That is the absolute height of stupidity and incompetence, so well done Bleakley and Chiles for telling the BBC to get stuffed!

In the same way that I refuse to listen to the appalling Radio 2 Breakfast Show, I also now refuse to watch The One Show.

Do you have to go on special training courses to learn to be as stupid as the BBC's senior management team, I wonder?

Maybe to learn how to worship properly at the altar of Evans thy god and say three "Hail Chrissys" on bended knee in front of it at the beginning & end of each day!!
