I had the misfortune to listen to this station while on holiday in St. Ives. I lost patience when Jean-Paul Sartre was mentioned as a star birthday and the presenters made a lame joke about not having enough patience to talk about existentialism.

They did not follow it with Monty Python's ' Bruces' Philosopher song'!

Coming from Plymouth, and with my mother's family being Cornish, I spend a lot of time in Devon and Cornwall, but I've given up listening to local radio down there. Commercial radio is just awful.

Pirate FM used to be moderately good in the days when Roger "Twiggy" Day (ex of Luxembourg, RNI and other proper pirate stations) did an acceptable breakfast show but alas those days are gone.

UK independent commercial radio really is in a pitiful state, both locally and nationally.

It's just as bad in the North of England - when Real Radio do the 'Word On The Street' vox pop I feel like screaming 'shut the hell up and play another record'!

I only have Real Radio or Radio Aire on when my sister and niece are over - my niece knows all of the autotuned fembot garbage they play.

I know what you mean. I was talking to some of my daughter's friends the other day (they're mostly in their 20s and should know better) who were saying what a lovely voice some-fembot-or-other had. I piped up "But you're not listening to her voice, you're listening to an autotune filter in ProTools". They didn't have a clue what I was referring to and didn't seem to care anyhow.

Proof of this comes with listening to Cheryl Cole (or whatever she's calling herself this week) on record and then see her perform "live" on stage. On record, she's pitch perfect all the time - thanks to Autotune - but on stage she's off-pitch almost all the time (that's if she has the guts to deliver a live vocal - often it will be mixed with a re-enforcement vocal track).

Unfortunately, local commercial radio is part of the problem in endlessly plugging all this stuff.

Thank heavens for 6 Music, Planet Rock, etc.
