|
|
Rich Hall sets his keen eye and acerbic wit on his homeland once again as he sifts truth from fiction in Hollywood's version of the southern states of the USA. Using specially shot interviews and featuring archive footage from classic movies such as Gone With The Wind, A Streetcar Named Desire and Deliverance, Rich discovers a South that is about so much more than just rednecks, racism and hillbillies.

He hasn't got the most polished of presentational styles nevertheless I enjoyed this...perhaps would have benefited from being in 2 parts ... |

Another programme from Rich Hall, tonight on BBC 4 at 9....
Rich Hall's 'How the West Was Lost'
Comedian Rich Hall travels around the US as he tries to find out what killed off that most quintessentially American of all film genres, the Western. Through films such as The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, Little Big Man, The Wild Bunch and Unforgiven, he charts the rise and fall of America's obsession with its own creation myth and explores how the image of the cowboy as a moral, straight-talking heroic figure was created by Hollywood but appropriated by Washington.

After last night's programme I am now a convert to the Rich Hall style of presentation..... .I thought he must have had a hand in writing it the way he delivered it so was impressed to read on the credits he had written it all! |

I agree.. he is great to listen to. It really makes me wish I knew somebody like him! Did you see him on "Have I got News for You" in the past?
I watched parts of the show but I had a mate around so didn't take it all in.
Some of the Western Movies shown were tremendous films and great entertainment, The Duke and James Stewart being my favourites by far.
I never took to those Spaghetti Westerns however.. just not right. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I've seen him on Have I Got News For You,Santa, but these two programmes have really made me sit up and listen to him much more attentively....very droll and very funny ..oh and he isn't keen on the Spaghetti Westerns either......
If you get a chance I recommend you watch it .. |
