Unless you are able to listen in the London area on 106.2fm then it's London Heart. Another bunch of local stations will become heart this week as Heart networks there shows apart from Local Breakfast and Drivetime. Mercury, Ten 17, Ram, Leicester Sound, Trent & Red Dragon are the latest to lose local DJ's. Some stations like 102.7 ( old mercury) in Crawley will also able to pick up Jamie and Harriet on Londons breakfast, so I reckon they will eventually want a national breakfast?

Shows which will be networked :

Gareth John Early Breakfast

Toby Anstis - Mid Mornings

Nick Snaith- Afternoons

Matt Wilkinson - Evenings

Simon Beale - Late Show

I couldn't care less, Mark.

It's all further proof, if proof were ever needed, that "independent local radio" in this country is a sham and that the big guys with money have had their way.

Heart is absolutely appalling at any level - even their local "him and the bimbo" breakfast shows (almost as bad as Radio 2's breakfast offering) are dire beyond belief.

By "going national" with breakfast all they're doing is creating yet another bland, boring and unedifying national radio network out of what really should be individual local stations supporting local communities and local identities.

We have a "Heart" station here in MK but I can't see that the studio will be required much longer.

RIP Independent Local Radio. The money boys have won.

I'm not sure that's quite right, mark

Radio Trent and its siblings are separate from the Heart network - the East Midlands has its own Heart. It has a much higher profile (than Heart) locally, and a different music policy, being closer to Radio 1.

I think it has serious competition with Absolute Radio in the 'most awful radio' category.

With Smooth going D1 soon then the competition is on. At the end of the day Magic London dosn't need to go National, because you can listen on Freeview and Sky.

I'll pass up that opportunity, thanks all the same!

I found Mrs SFF had re tuned our Internet radio recently to another US station called "Club FM Malt Shop"... speaks for itself really?
They only play "Hits from the mid 50s to early 60s" so it rings my bell.. Laughing
I had it on this morning as I did the daily backwards and forwards wanderings from Bathroom to Bedroom.. Evans in the Bathroom, "Malt Shop" in the Bedroom.
Needless to say the "Malt Shop" records were the most alluring so Evans got the chop.
Internet radio... I love it.

Me too. I have an iPhone app called SHOUTcast! which is just fantabulosio. Slot it into the iPod dock, crank up the steam pressure dial and Robert is one's proverbial uncle for thousands of web stations during weekday breakfast times! (Given that there's nothing on R2).
