T'riffic. Chris Evans, followed by Zoe Ball. Then Chris Tarrant followed by Liza Tarbuck.

I know it's August, but you'd think it might be possible to stagger holidays a bit so that there's at least a semblance of the regular schedule. I'm spending more and more time on Absolute Radio these days. It's not red-hot but it's a damn sight less irritating than R2. Rolling Eyes

It's a dreadful schedule this week. I've only had JV on today and then I've been 'doing' things so didn't have my full ear on it.

Have got the knack of the good old fashioned cassette radio that records now so it was good to listen to Sarah at breakfast. Roger Royle on the Pause for Thought.

Not really Becky.

I don't have DAB radio (doesn't work in our house, although it should) and the internet radio is only in the kitchen.

I've never listened to 6 Music... and I don't know why that is!
My alternative to standin's such as Zoe Ball is my SD equipped Roberts radio with lots of SOTS lined up ready! Laughing

Helen/Colin , I meant to comment on this before but I realised after a little use, that my Roberts WiFi radio will always play the latest programme if you have it as a "Favourite" pre-set..
So, if I turn the unit on, select Pre-set 2 (in my case) it'll connect to the net and play the last Pick of the Pops every time without the hassle of looking for it on the "Listen Again" menu! Razz

I thought after I'd posted you need to have a Dab radio,Helen, for 6 Music...I have been lucky to have had a couple bought for me...mind they don't pick my local station up or my county station....

I'm a big fan of 6 Music so was very happy when it received a reprieve....

We did try R6 when Chris Evans first came on at breakfast time, Becky, but we didn't much like it and haven't gone back to try again.

Christian O'Connell on Absolute can be quite funny at breakfast time, but last week he had someone standing in for him who sounded just like Evans. I got quite alarmed when I switched it on, thinking I'd made a mistake and let the GW into the house. Twisted Evil

I'm quickly losing the habit of listening to R2 at all these days - and certainly I don't bother during weekdays such as these.

Thankfully, there's a mass of much better stuff out there - but sadly not if you're in the car and reliant on FM.

That's where the iPod/iPhone comes in, thankfully. British FM radio is an almost complete wasteland if you're not really into speech or classical music.

I have to say that having accepted the fact that Evans was here to stay, I thought I could tolerate 30 minutes or so of him whilst I occupied the bathroom until my safe haven of US radio in the bedroom but even that is just too much now.
This morning he was prattling on about "things you can extend" " this is National extending things day" at such a pace it just got on my nerves! plus the sickly brown nosing of the pair he has on with him is just cringe worthy.

I think you are cutting off your nose to spite your face with Absolute Minx. I think it has to be a serious contender for the worst radio station. For heavens sake, they are still playing that berluddy Muse track. It must be 2 years now that they've been flogging that now! Have they really not got anything else other than 'Uprising' by them to play? Absolute Radio? - Absolute trash IMO! I should add here that I don't hear it out of choice, just have to endure it at work.

I don't think it's a regular slot Becky, if it was Saturday morning I think he was sitting in for Frank Skinner.

I can live with the music LEE, all I ask is that I don't have my ear bent by manic egocentrics. I've got very low expectations these days. Rolling Eyes

Personally I'd be on R4 if the OH would stand it. Having said that, I've just bought another radio (Roberts cheapo) to carry round the house with me, so I might not be catching R2 at all soon.

I think that works on mine as well. I don't use it enough, although since its upgrade I've been listening to a station in North Dakota in the mornings, lots of 10 in a row but it's not good if you need to be urged along a bit of morning as it's the middle of the night over there!

One thing has become apparent is the number of radios we all have to have to satisfy our listening habits! It's getting crazy now as at the moment I have 3 in the kitchen! One will have to go.

I've had the same problem as the rest of you today; salvation has come in the form of Nation Radio who cover the south coast of Wales, billed as rock but in reality mainly Britpop although they do feature some decent upcoming local talent as well.

Unfortunately I'm up in the wilds of Powys tomorrow where even getting R2 can be problematic; think I'll rifle through me CD collection tonight, roll on Friday when I can have TMS on!

All very well suggesting 6 music and Planet Rock etc, guys but what about us poor saps who are on the move? I know you can get DAB radios for cars but I don't think they're very high on my transport manger's list of priorities Wink

It wouldn't work anyway. Mobile DAB is utterly useless!

Agree with Helen's OP: this week it's SK on Listen Again whilst I'm at my pc, and that's it as far as R2 goes. I'd forgotten thet ZB was on until yesterday, all I can say is "hurry back Ken"!

I did hear a bit of Tarrant whilst I was driving yesterday, it was ok but not 3 hours of it. As Minx said, you'd think they could schedule holidays a bit better - any company I've ever worked for wouldn't allow this to happen.
