So, BBC DG Mark Thompson is now starting to panic about the Tories' threat to cut the BBC Licence Fee in real terms. Oh dear.

See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11111001

He's saying that to cut the fee will result in top quality TV programmes not being made. But hang on......... Lots of independent production companies will be able to tell him that their budgets are screwed more heavily now than ever before. A 30-minute factual programme often has to come in at around 2,000 per half-hour slot off-peak (compared with 36,000 20 years ago - thanks in part to new technology). So, on my reckoning, that means that you could make 6 half-hour shows for the amount of money that Evans is reportedly being paid for each appearance on The One Show.

When it comes to savings, I know where Mr. Thompson should be telling his Executive Producers to start looking first............

Ditch Evans now, Mr. Thompson. You know it makes sense!

I think a lot of what he said was correct but I do agree with you about the ridiculous salaries some people are paid. It is not just Chris Evans but also people like Graham Norton, Bruce Forsyth, Terry Wogan, etc.
